Looking down on my friend from the second floor. The first flight was the worst, as they were the original stone steps. We took it in turns to go up higher, as it would've meant carrying our bags again, and we had learnt our lesson by then! ๐Ÿ˜

This shows why I said it was quite the climb getting up to the third floor of the Reculver Tower yesterday. Three flights of a very narrow spiral staircase! ๐Ÿ˜… Matthew did give me a smile when I said the word ๐Ÿ˜ #ReculverTowers #Reculver #Kent #England

What remains of St Mary's Church, Reculver, on a sunny autumn afternoon. The sky is a clear blue, with some fair-weather clouds in the distance. The church dates from the 7th century and is a popular Kent landmark.

Another view of the towers from an adjacent field which was once the site of a Roman fort.

The towers again, but this time from the opposite side from the first photo. The North Sea resembled a mill pond, it was so calm!

A view from inside the seaward tower. Margate, Isle of Thanet (at least, it used to be an island) can just about be made out on the distant horizon. The area between the darker green fields and the horizon used to be a strait, but has long since silted up. Roman galleys and Viking longships used to sail it! ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ™‚

I spent a great afternoon today with a friend exploring around the Reculver Towers, near Herne Bay, Kent. Somewhere I haven't visited for years. We even got to climb one of the towers! #ReculverTowers #Reculver #HerneBay #Kent #England

Ruins, for me, are the beginning. With the debris, you can construct new ideas. They are symbols of a beginning.
