#RedDwarfMarathon Ep 74 - The Promised Land - 9 Apr 2020 4/4
which all work for me. Loved Rimmer in low power mode. This was excellent. It was recently announced there's going to be more #RedDwarf, so it doesn't end here. Don't overlook this one - it was quite good, and funny if you know the show.
#RedDwarfMarathon Ep 74 - The Promised Land - 9 Apr 2020 3/4
and is funny - especially in the sandstorm sequence. I do love how the cats are ultimately defeated (laser pointer). We get a new version of Rimmer's hologram, now "Diamond Light". The non cat stuff is typical current era #RedDwarf jokes,

Dwarf mythos in it. I always wanted them to revisit the cat race, and this finally happened. A lot of this is about how those who follow the teachings of Cloister (Lister) butt heads with the cat's Feral King. Holly's back here
#RedDwarf Ep 74 - The Promised Land - 9 Apr 2020 1/4
My #RedDwarfMarathon ends here with the most recent ep. Was a TV movie that aired in 2020 where we finally revisit the rest of the cat race we hadn't heard about since Season 1 back in 1988. Given it's based on early lore, a lot of this has early
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 73 - Skipper - 16 Nov 2017 3/3
the best bits are the returns of Norman Lovett & Mac McDonald. Both appear in a segment that takes us back to the radiation leak that wipes out Red Dwarf. They replicate the "Everybody's dead Dave" bit from ep1 here. DJJ as "Rat" is ๐ฅ๐ฅ
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 73 - Skipper - 16 Nov 2017 2/3
we have rats instead of cats), and the one where Rimmer gets everything he wants in life with a single exception. Lister is captain of Red Dwarf. The bit at the start about reality being the opposite of what they say is great. But two of
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 73 - Skipper - 16 Nov 2017 1/3
S12 ends with one of my all time favs. Kryten invents a device that allows one to skip to different dimensions. Rimmer uses it for find a better reality for himself. Some are quite silly, but I got major laughs out of "Rat World" (where
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 72 - M-Corp - 9 Nov 2017 2/2
He ends up trapped in debt all the stuff he owes the corporation & the other guys have to rescue him. I enjoyed it a bit more this time than before. There's a brilliant call back to the first ever ep at the end of this one which I loved.
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 72 - M-Corp - 9 Nov 2017 1/2
This is one I wanted to like in concept, but it fell a bit short. Red Dwarf gets a software update (from where and why not Holly?) & we find out that the JMC is now owned by M-Corp who makes things that are non M-Corp invisible to Lister.
#RedDwarfMarathon Ep 71 - Mechocracy - 2 Nov 2017 2/2 #NoToast
between Kryten & Rimmer, which is where the bulk of the comedy comes. Rather enjoyed this, and even without Talkie who holds the key to the election it appears Rimmer in the hold with Talkie is awesome.
Does anyone want any toast?
#RedDwarfMarathon Ep 71 - Mechocracy - 2 Nov 2017 1/2 #NoToast
The primary fun here is the return of Talkie Toaster for his first appearance since Season 4. The main plot here is that the various machines on #RedDwarf feel that their interests aren't being attended to. To this, an election is held
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 70 - Timewave - 26 Oct 2017 2/2
care for this ep. The base story was boring, jokes weren't that great. I was happy for this one to be over, which is a major rarity in Red Dwarf. The "Inner critic Rimmer" was an interesting idea, tho - just wish there was more of THAT.
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 70 - Timewave - 26 Oct 2017 1/2
The ceremony at the start with Rimmer on a planet reminded me a lot of the second series vibe. The crew end up on a ship which has outlawed criticism of any kind, and our crew have to operate inside those restrictions. I really didn't
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 69 - Siliconia - 19 Oct 2017 2/2
an obscene amount of work for the makeup dept. They escape after a "cleaning battle" & the droids are distracted. Always felt the transformation back was glossed over & quick - why did mechs keep their OG bodies? That never made sense.
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 69 - Siliconia - 19 Oct 2017 1/2
In short, the entire crew gets turned into Kryten. The main comedy here is watching our crew deal with being like Kryten is. But it's not just those three, there's an entire culture of androids here living on their own. Must have made
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 68 - Cured - 12 Oct 2017 2/2
they're "cured". It leads to some bizarre comedy - especially with "Hitler" (who isn't the REAL one, but a converted android). It's a not very deep concept, but the comedy works for me. Cat was good here at the end. Overall a good episode.
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 68 - Cured - 12 Oct 2017 1/2
S12 starts off with the crew running into a space station where medical guy claims to have "cured" the worst people in history - Vlad the Impaler, Mussolini, Hitler, etc... Most of the ep is our people interacting with them & not believing
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 67 - Can of Worms - 27 Oct 2016 2/2
Afterwards the second half of the ep is our crew dealing with the various polymorphs that Cat has "birthed". Starting to feel polymorph is overused. Could do without it now. Overall a pretty funny ep - female cat def a high point.
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 67 - Can of Worms - 27 Oct 2016 1/2
Cat gets impregnated by a polymorph, who pretends to be a female cat. There's a lot of jokes here about our Cat being a virgin. The woman playing the female cat absolutely nailed DJJ's performance and cloned it. She is a highlight.
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 66 - Krysis - 20 Oct 2016 2/2
hilarious. The best part was an android they ran into which was an earlier version of Kryten - name's Butler. This was better than I remember (mostly due to Butler), but the end was still meh; just not funny. Had promise, just "eh".
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 66 - Krysis - 20 Oct 2016 1/2
This one says it all in the title. It's Kryten's middle life crisis, hence "Krysis". Didn't care for this one on first viewing 20-ish years ago. Robert Llewellyn himself is fine, but the story doesn't grip me. Cat dancing with Kryten was
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 65 - Officer Rimmer - 13 Oct 2016 2/2
printing hundreds of duplicates of himself that he can lord over. All of this is absolutely hilarious. The only part that is ass is the ending - it ends super fast, and unsatisfyingly, but the rest is spectacular up to that point.
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 65 - Officer Rimmer - 13 Oct 2016 1/2
One of my favs of the modern RD era - Rimmer gets himself promoted and becomes a proper officer. The person who promotes him is gone, & can't demote him. Watching Rimmer going "mad with power" is funny as hell. He ends up bio
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 64 - Give & Take - 6 Oct 2016 2/2 #CaptBollocks
crew dealing with Lister's missing kidneys, and some "time travel smeg" to fix it. There's also Snacky's mistaken identity, which has some fun jokes. Rimmer's B plot about arguing with a lift is an odd story.
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 64 - Give & Take - 6 Oct 2016 1/2 #CaptBollocks
The crew lands on a spaceship and pick up a robot called "Snacky" that they first think is a medi-bot. They first have to escape from a creature called Asclepius, an insane medical officer. The second half is mostly the
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 63 - Samsara - 29 Sep 2016 2/2
(the Samsara) that our guys are trying to find out about. It's one of the more "un Dwarf" stories. The way the two parts tie together with the karma drive is what makes this work for me. Not the funniest ep, but I enjoyed it well enough.
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 63 - Samsara - 29 Sep 2016 1/2
This one's a bit different. They recover an escape pod with two people in it who were vaporized. However, they were able to talk to them, but through a time warp. Parts of this ep is based on flashbacks of the crew of the other ship
#RedDwarfMarathon #RedDwarf Ep 62 - Twentica - 22 Sep 2016 2/2
collections of famous historical figures to interact with. They have to find a way to get rid of the simulants who have created a society that outlaws any tech beyond the 1920's. It's a convoluted plot, but I liked it.
#RedDwarfMarathon Ep 62 - Twentica - 22 Sep 2016 1/2
S11 kicks off with an ep I didn't care for at first, but on rewatch I enjoyed it a bit better. Crew lands in a place where modern tech is outlawed, so hiding Kryten & Rimmer are an issue. It does something #RedDwarf has done several times -
#RedDwarfMarathon Ep 61 - The Beginning - 8 Nov 2012 3/3
change Rimmer going forward but wasn't really followed up after this episode. The title was a direct reference back to the first ep ("The End") w/Rimmer saying "The slime's coming home!" The simulant idea was from unmade #RedDwarf movie.
