🌏 Red-throated barbet (Psilopogon mystacophanos) The red-throated barbet is a vibrant Asian barbet, predominantly green with a stout bill. Medium-sized birds, males have a striking red throat and crown, a black face mask, and yellow and blue markings. Females are duller, lacking most of the male's facial colours. Found in lowland forests and swamps of Southeast Asia, they are often heard before being seen, with loud, repetitive calls. Primarily frugivorous, red-throated barbets are usually solitary or in pairs and nest in tree cavities.
