Consumers Energy Upgrades Zeeland Natural Gas Facility to Meet Summer Energy Demands Consumers Energy is increasing the capacity of its Zeeland natural gas facility in Michigan, with anticipated completion by mid-June to meet anticipated summer energy demands. This upgrade aligns with the company's overarching Reliability Roadmap, a program focused on modernizing energy infrastructure and strengthening the grid. According to Norm Kapala, Consumers Energy's vice president of generation operations, the expansion demonstrates a dedication to consistent reliability. As energy needs shift and communities grow, Consumers Energy is proactively ensuring customers receive dependable power. The project incorporates advanced technologies, including an Advanced Gas Path (AGP) system for increased power output and better fuel usage, and an Advanced Fuel System (AFS) for precise fuel mixing control. These enhancements will allow turbines to generate more electricity, respond more quickly to changing needs, adding 50 megawatts of power and boosting fuel efficiency by 2.5 percent. "This represents an investment in Michigan’s continued progress," Kapala stated. Consumers Energy serves 6.8 million of Michigan’s 10 million residents across 68 Lower Peninsula counties, providing natural gas and/or electricity.
