Good Friday holiday proposal fails in tie vote as Senate splits 12-12 A proposal to designate Good Friday as a state holiday (SB 193) failed on the Senate floor after a 12-12 tie; supporters framed it as recognition of a religious observance while opponents said it effectively grants an additional paid day off and could complicate school calendars.

In a surprising turn of events, the Utah Senate voted 12-12 on a bill to make Good Friday a state holiday, leaving supporters and opponents at an impasse.

School pupils in Scotland deserve objective, inclusive, facts-based education. This bill totally fumbles the opportunity to provide that. We hope MSPs will use their vote to show the government where it has gone wrong...

Is it OK for Christians to shop on the Sunday before Xmas so as to be able to celebrate the Christian faith -- one that indicates Sunday is the sabbath day?

Wouldn't it be convenient, though, if the two were discussed in the same breath often enough to make it seem like reckless atheists were trying stop schools from teaching your kids about different faith and belief systems?......

ICYMI John Swinney confirmed plans for a deeply flawed and discriminatory #ReligiousObservance bill. The @scotsman.com reported on the bizarre inequality this bill will create, allowing children to opt *into* religious observance against their parents' wishes but not out of it. Story in replies

We've made a great start on our fundraiser to support a legal opinion on the Scottish government's proposals on #ReligiousObservance. We believe they fall foul of UN rules of the rights of the child, as children have no right to opt themselves out. If you want to donate, click the link in replies

At 19, I renounced and never looked back.

If you're going to teach religion in school, then give equal time to ALL religions & atheism, and allow folks to choose their own path.

Thanks @emmaroddicksnp.bsky.social for raising the vital issue of religious observance at First Ministers Questions. @scottishgovernment.bsky.social's current plans for changing #ReligiousObservance rules do not go nearly far enough, as they do not allow young people to opt themselves out. (1/2)

Last chance!

Scottish government is consulting on a #ReligiousObservance bill which will re-confirm some aspects of RO delivery. We need you to tell them to be much bolder, offering full opt-out rights to pupils, in line with UNCRC guidance. Respond before 26 Jan using our guide! (Link in replies)
