Luke’s Software created a fan version of #RescueOnFractalus using current tech (+VR!). He’s worked on it for 15 yrs. A while back I shared the difficulty variables chart with him so he could tune his version to more closely match the original. But THIS is the game I always played in my imagination.
We showed this video at the 1984 press conference announcing our first two games, #RescueOnFractalus and #ballblazer. First part has no visuals, we didn’t want to confuse people by mixing game imagery with PR footage. We held the event at the famous Kerner C building theater adjacent to ILM #gamedev

When the Lucasfilm Games Group started, we were given what felt like unlimited time to experiment, explore, tweak, polish our first two “throwaway” games, #RescueOnFractalus and #Ballblazer. Both ended up being groundbreaking games. We were so fortunate to have that extra time. #gamedev
