These medical X-rays are all deepfakes — and they fool even radiologists Radiologists and large language models alike have a hard time picking out real medical images from fake ones.

Radiologists given a mix of real and AI-generated X-rays averaged 75% accuracy. Experience made no difference. LLMs scored 57-85%. We talk about AI-generated text but image integrity needs to catch up.

Major conference catches illicit AI use — and rejects hundreds of papers The papers’ watermarks allowed organizers to detect use of large language models in peer review.

ICML embedded hidden watermarks in papers to catch AI-generated reviews. 506 reviewers flagged, 497 papers rejected under their reciprocal review policy. Only catches careless use, but this type of AI policy is refreshing.

Rebuttal Experiments Are Breaking Peer Review Right Now A lot of people in AI quietly agree on one thing about rebuttal experiments: they make their papers better. More checks, more baselines, more datasets, what’s not to like? Except a growing number of authors are saying the opposite: rebuttal experiments are making their papers worse. TL;DR Rebuttal experiments mostly satisfy reviewer psychology, not scientific necessity, randomized trials show they only weakly affect decisions.
