Columbia - Saving Democracy Rally on Flag Day, hosted by Carolina for All, in coalition with South Carolina AFL-CIO and 50501SC - Saturday June 14th - 12:30-4PM - SC State House North Grounds 1100 Gervais St Columbia, SC 29201
(Columbia, SC / Statewide) Carolina for All is collaborating with 50501 again for another giant rally at the SC Statehouse. This is a celebration of Flag Day, sponsored in part by the SC AFL-CIO, with assistance from Indivisible’s No Kings movement and Public Citizen. More than 1400 rallies are being held across the country on the same day, to contrast the president’s military parade in DC which is expected to cost taxpayers between 45 and 100 million dollars. Our collaboration on April 5th brough out more than 3K participants who were concerned about the Trump Administration agenda. This event will feature several veterans of the US military, and also former Congressman Joe Walsh of Illinois. Originally a supporter of Trump before his first term in the Whitehouse, Walsh evolved into a persistent critic, supporting Robert Mueller’s Special Council Investigation and also President Biden. He called Trump “a danger to this country” and has suggested using the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. Walsh now considers himself an independent (Note: Walsh will be coming from Charleston and is expected to speak after 2 pm) Speakers will include a representative of SC United for Justice and Equality Coalition, focused on legal equality for the LGBTQ community (June 14 is also the day of SC Pride’s Outfest Block Party, celebrated in Columbia’s Vista, just down the street from the Statehouse) Long-time Columbia talent Sara Williams will offer a few songs. Rally participants will also be given a chance to speak briefly after the main speakers.
