Two jars. The brownish one on the left is Staghorn Sumac umac seed. The one on the right it sumac powder.

Sumac seeds and sumac powder for replacing invasive species and making zataar thyme and sumacaid. These are from Staghorn Sumac (Rhus typha), which is getting to be overripe for processing (in MA). It's Smooth Sumac (R. glabra) season now!

Rhus organic taste fruit 😲😋 #rhus

Prunus virginiana, choke cherries. Although I'm slightly dubious about that ID because the flowers are spaced so far apart on the racemes. Looking at several racemes of tiny white flowers, pretty typical Prunus, most of the way open (stamens still curled up inside the flowers).

Rhus aromatica, fragrant sumac. Looking at a group of young twigs with fresh green leaves, and two clusters of flower buds, still tightly furled. I'd never seen this species before and was a bit leery cause there's a Poison Oak that looks generally similar (enough that it used to be considered part of Rhus). But as far as I've found this one is OK and is actually used for food.

Ribes acerifolium, maple-leaved currant. Closeup on the very small green and red flowers on a loose raceme, among a few of the leaves. A bit of a challenge photographing this one as it seems to prefer the deepest shade.

Rosa nutkana, nootka rose. A simple unfurling rose flower, single, deep pink in the center fading to pale pink at the edges, with a boss of stamens in the center, pale yellow as they are not yet mature.

#ヌルデ 【北海道自宅周辺】６月下旬

葉軸に翼があるので、ヌルデですね。葉の表面にあるブツブツは、ヌルデフシダニによる虫こぶです。見てるとゾワゾワしてきますね。なんとなく、触ったらかぶれるような気がしてしまいます。虫こぶの有無に関係なく、ヌルデはウルシ科なので、皮膚の弱い人はかぶれることもあるんだとか。
