The End of the Mugabe Era

On March 4, 1980: #RobertMugabe's Zimbabwe African National Union - Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) comes to power, winning the parliamentary election in Zimbabwe, making Mugabe Zimbabwe's first black prime minister.

#RobertMugabe, having led the #ZANU fight against #Rhodesia, won election on #ThisDayInHistory in 1980 to lead the successor state of #Zimbabwe. He held power in the country continuously until a 2017 coup, overseeing a corrupt #kleptocracy that used dishonest #socialist rhetoric.

I’m not praising #RobertMugabe. However, at the time he came to power the civil rights movement in the USA was barely out of its infancy. His freeing his state from White rule was inspiring to many CR leaders and Black people.
