A view to the south, from just north of Montrose. That's Mt Sneffels, tallest peak in the Williams Mountain range, framed in by by the clouds. Fast moving big ol' dark Cumulonimbus just boiling up and over the horizon and headed my way. And Sonya and I have a 4.5 mile walk to get back to our camp. Had a Doctor's appointment at this end of town earlier. Ends up being a 10 mile hike before the day is done.

A view from the edge of Simms Mesa looking a little east of due south. The Northern San Juans Mountains in the far distance Little Twin Buttes in the foreground picture right. Standing in high desert Grassland and Sage brush, the small mound in the foreground of dirt marks a 🦡 Badgers den. Look closely at the ground and you might notice the little brown spots of Prairie Dog burrows. Mr. Badgers favorite prey. There's a Coyote den about 40 yards away from the Badgers, though not in this photo...
The view directly south from the same position. Little Twin Buttes to the left now, with Red Mountain pass in the far background just right of the little tit, as its known to locals. The Williams range is photo left and Telluride is located in the San Miguel River valley just beyond. The sky was surreal with the light constantly changing. The scent of Sage absolutely filling the air! Oh my goodness but it's Soo good to be breathing! High desert Sage and Juniper's simply heavenly scents. I mean, iffin' there wuz' any kinda' Heaven other than these Rocky Mountains 🥰

This naturally comfortable bench was created by a bolt of Lightning⚡ striking this decaying ol' Sycamore tree decades ago. A big jagged rip down the trunk and the base of the tree exploded, falling the trunk where it still lies today. It's a great spot. Quiet but for the bird's. There's a big smooth spot that my butt has worn into this bench over years. The cleared spot at my feet is where Sonya has made her place, to lay out my feet. Any breeze generally comes out of the southwest so right into my face and I can scent everything on that gentle wind 🌬️
This is the view in front of my eyes 👀 when I'm chilling out on the Sycamore bench. Out and over the corner of a small pond and into the Cottonwoods and Willows that grow along the Uncompaghre River just beyond. There's Soo many birds. Bats at night. Squadrons of Mosquitoes and every kind of Life common to southwest riparian habitat. Got a Pair of Great Horned that rule the night, and I hear them every night too... The worlds biggest symphony orchestra of Cricket's and it's just about time for the Spring peepers and Leopard frogs to join in. Foxes caterwauling off in the distance. Oh my goodness but you wouldn't believe how peaceful and deep the sleep is in these parts of the West. This bench recharges my soul every time I rest my bones upon it 🙏🌈🧬💞

We had a great time hiking the Dream Lake trail in #rockymountainnationalpark. We hiked to Nymph Lake with all of the dragonflies, climbed to Dream Lake and took a well deserved break while enjoying the surrounding mountains. #colorado #rockymountains #nationalpark #coloradogram

In middle-ground is a large, sprawling, Alpine-style hotel, painted dark brown with windows outlined in white. There is a driveway in front of the hotel, with a couple of cars parked near the entrance. The background is dominated by the Rocky Mountain range, two tall peaks visible, one covered with snow.
In the summer of 1977 I worked at Many Glacier Hotel, in Glacier National Park, Montana. This was the hotel, but the #Background of #RockyMountains is undeniably the star of this photo.
