Well, this may or may not be it for our season. We may get an extension, but this is likely it for B10 this year. We got to the floors in Rms 5, 6, 7, 9, and 10, but ran out of time for Rm 2. So, for now, we backfill to dig another day, insha’allah. #amheida2026 #romanegypt #archaeology
We got some nice coverage about the four lovely students from Matrouh University who visited us this year to gain archaeological experience! English: mau.edu.eg/posts/detail... Arabic: www.almasryalyoum.com/news/details... #amheida2026 #romanegypt #archaeology @isawnyu.bsky.social

A view of three people working in an archaeological trench, all inspecting a wall to the right. At the top of the frame a plastered wall painted black shows through a gap in a sand embankment.
A meditation on collapses. Yes they’re in your way, but they tell a story of unbuilding. They have a beauty of their own, frozen cascades of bricks, a record of a lonely day when a vault or wall fell without a witness—only now someone sees the moment they finally gave way. #amheida2026 #romanegypt

The end of 2nd week of excavation; making good progress at B10 removing the collapsed vaults in Rms 5-6 and getting to the occupational levels in Rms 2, 7, 8, 9. We have our work cut out for us consolidating and conserving the painted plaster walls. #amheida2026 #dakhkaoasis #romanegypt

🎭 These Roman mummy masks come from ancient Egypt. They date from the 1st-2nd century CE, and they are painted and made from plaster. (Pushkin Museum, Moscow).

I wish there was something like a Companion book to Religion In Roman Egypt that wasn’t about the conversion period but how Religion was practiced from Persian period to Late #Antiquity.

#ancientbluesky anyone have some images of basic utilitarian small storage pottery from #RomanEgypt? Trying to research for an illustration. (Image of mythic house weasel for attention) Thanks!
So somebody who’s a great academic in Roman history and does TV liked this on Threads and now I’m anxious I may not have written it well.
It’s all thanks to a scholar with a special interest in recording donkey sales in Roman Egypt.

Figuring out how to write about where magic experts got their materials from.
I like mapping things out so this book will be full of diagrams of how rituals work, based on objects. #AncientHistory #AcademicSky #RomanEgypt #Magic

Inky paw print on a sherd from Thebes, Egypt, recording Maieuris paid their taxes at around 94 CE. I've flipped the image so the paw print is facing up & the text is inverted. My guess is this was a cat, it's a cat kinda thing to do no? But I'm not an expert. 6.5x6.4cm
