#OTD the Ludi Plebeii festival started & ran from the 4th of #November to the 17th. Festivities included the Epulum Iovis feast, theatrical comedies by #Plautus & chariot races in the Circus Maximus. The #festival is considered one of the oldest, celebrated since 220 BC

🌿Happy #Lucaria ! Ancient #Roman festival of the #SacredGrove held on 19 & 21 July. Even by the 1st c BC its purpose was a mystery.

Lucus meant a ritual grove. It has been argued Lucaria reflects shared Iron Age traditions—from Romans to Celts - where nature was sacred

Fordicidia was a #RomanFestival celebrated on 15th Apr for farming & livestock fertility. It involved the sacrifice of a pregnant cow to Tellus (Mother Earth) during the time of Cerealia.The sacrifice ensured the fertility of the planted grain growing in the womb of Mother Earth
