For some reason, the JMA has named 28W (fmr. #RominaPH) as #Pabuk, though it's still a tropical depression as per our analysis of satellite imagery. It's also doing a loop while its circulation is exposed. Cool. Regardless, keep watch for those in central to southern Vietnam.

#RominaPH continues to maintain its intensity as it begins to move away from the Kalayaan Islands and is still expected to be a tropical storm within 24 hours. Conditions should start to improve over the islands as the storm moves away. Regardless, take action and remain advised.

PAGASA has named it #RominaPH despite it not being in their area of responsibility. My hunch is they were told to do this to emphasize the #Philippines' claim to the Spratly Islands (and a storm signal is up for the Kalayaan Islands, part of those). I hate it when weather is politicized.
