Ceragenin-Coated Endotracheal Tubes Fail to Reduce Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia Intervention was tied to other improvements versus standard ETTs

Using ETTs coated with ceragenins did not reduce the incidence of VAP compared to standard subglottic suction ETTs, but mortality was lower with the ceragenin-coated ETTs, according to the CEASE VAP study.

Procalcitonin-Guided Sepsis Care Improves Survival, Had No Effect on Antibiotic Use Clinicians agreed with the algorithm's recommendation in 47% of cases

Incorporating procalcitonin into an algorithm for sepsis diagnosis in the ED did not affect the timeliness of patients receiving IV antibiotics, but it did reduce short-term mortality rates, the randomized PRONTO study showed. #SCCM2026

Enjoyed speaking at @sccmcriticalcare.bsky.social CPP Pre-Congress Forum on Emergency Response Outside the ICU with Quinn Czosnowski.

Pharmacist impact doesn’t stop at the ICU. It scales across the hospital with the right training and systems.

No Benefit to Surfactant in Invasive Mechanical Ventilation for Infant Bronchiolitis Endotracheal poractant alfa joins other interventions that lack clinical benefit

Use of endotracheal poractant alfa (Curosurf) did not shorten the duration of invasive mechanical ventilation for infants with bronchiolitis, a randomized phase II trial indicated. #SCCM2026

We don’t actually know what is a “high” anti-Xa level or a “low” level is, or whether they are effective at anticoagulation in kids.

Edie Fake (b. 1980, Evanston, IL; lives in Twentynine Palms, CA)
The Free Clinic for Gender Affirming Care, 2024-25
Mural
With this mural, artist Edie Fake envisions the utopian facade of a clinic for free transgender healthcare. The mural confronts the sweeping political effort to repress, restrict, and scapegoat transgender and nonbinary people. While gender-affirming care is like any other form of healthcare, helping transgender and non-binary people lead safe and healthy
Ilives, it is a frequent target of misinformation and suppression-including more than one hundred legislative bills to limit access to it in the past year alone.
This issue is personal for Fake, who notes, "In my own life, access to gender-affirming care has been hard won and life changing... this mural is meant to meet the threats]-and often reality-that [have] positioned gender-affirming care as scarce, under-resourced, and underground with an aspirational and celebratory vision." The mural's layered architectural motifs suggest a majestic structure whose undulating prismatic colors reflect the full spectrum of gender expression beyond the binary.
Atrium Project: Edie Fake is organized by Jack Schneider, Assistant Curator.

"Social movements and other activist formations are sites of collective world-making. Organized with the goal of bringing about other realities, they often counter the common sense, the habits of feeling, and the ways of living that prevail in a given time and place.
