Question for folks who attended the @scmstudies.bsky.social virtual symposium this weekend: were the meetings automatically recorded or did hosts get to choose?
I wanted to watch some meetings at the airport today and it looks like only a handful of SIGs have recordings…

12 days after I first had flu symptoms, I'm still not 100%. Acute flu-like symptoms mostly gone, but still don't feel great, still have a cough, and still just exhausted. I have so much to catch up on, but just doing the grocery shopping this morning wore me out. That #SCMS25 flu, y'all. 🥴
We had a great time hosting THREE tours as part of #SCMS25!
#SCMS25 attendees can still explore our collection and save 20% on their order with code CUP20SM at:https://cup.columbia.edu/film-and-media-studies/
My #SCMS25 book haul!! Excited to dive into new (and new to me) works by Brian Jacobson @bleudeciel.bsky.social, Alison Griffiths, Tom Slater, Alyssa Lopez, Rielle Navitski, Jie Li, and more! @ucpress.bsky.social @columbiaup.bsky.social @templeunivpress.bsky.social
This hits hard, as 10 years ago we got a @neh-odh.bsky.social grant to launch our Scholarship in Sound & Image workshop. That grant was truly transformative, as we just saw at #scms25 - it's no exaggeration to say that videographic criticism as we know it would not exist without #NEH support!
#SCMS25 in Chicago was exhausting but absolutely worth it! I was jet lagged and stressed about all the immigration chaos around US travel. Many thanks to colleagues whose support made the experience so much better!
A pic from a week ago when I picked up my #scms25 badge at registration and then attended the opening reception.

Feeling very thankful for the privilege and opportunity to attend a conference that did so much to restore, galvanize, and encourage. What a welcome site of conversation, connection, and compassion #SCMS25
In this terrifying political moment, it’s an acutely scary time to be a fledgling media scholar. Yet, gatherings like #SCMS25 offer key fonts of hope: the inspiring research & unfaltering generosity of so many brilliant scholars are a buoy, affirming the vital importance of our work and community.
This year's conference bug was apparently the flu, because OMG 🤒. Influenza A over here. (I masked in Denver but didn't the past 2 years, and that bit me in the ass this time.) Still loved seeing y'all though! #SCMS25
I love the imperative to be didactic; @adewaard.bsky.social also shared this at the #scms25 Jonathan tribute. Jonathan: “I’ve made writing a cornerstone of my graduate seminar pedagogy. We do better when we recognize scholars, including ourselves, as writers, and pay careful attention to the craft.”
which of y’all at #scms25 got me sick
Recovering from a fun weekend at #scms25 and shifting focus to the next event: The 2025 Midwest Graduate Film and Media Studies Symposium is in just two weekends, with keynote talk from sound studies scholar Neil Verma!
one of the best panels of #SCMS25!!!
P.S. Tell me about the good panels you all saw at #scms25! I'm bummed I didn't go and want to know what I missed.
Me standing in front of the lectern, presenting my paper on gooning at SCMS. The screen behind me shows internet famous gooner JV Marx (AKA the other Marx) making an iconic gooner face—eyes crossed, mouth open, drool dangling.
Bye, #SCMS25! It was great being back in the Windy City. Glad to have gotten to present my paper on #gooning, which I revised to the Beckett inspired title “I Can’t Go On, I’ll Goon.” Cameo by one of my favorite gooners @jvmarxx.bsky.social.
for #scms25 #scmskaraoke kittens over here, the playlist is up 😘

Back in Philadelphia, America's finest city, after #scms25. I so love spending time among generous and inspiring colleagues whom I respect, admire, and enjoy. Thanks to everyone who gave a talk, let me sit at their table, said hello, and indulged me singing Procul Harum at karaoke
It was so nice to end #SCMS25 in this room! Great views and great presentations! 👏🏽
Alright, I’m done. Bye #scms25!!
Shout-out to the ten people (!) who came to our panel in the last time slot of #scms25 and to Katie for documenting our talks.
Levine: P&G also currently marketing itself as inventor of soap operas. #scms25
Paul, Leo, and me at Wrigley Field, glizzies about to be destroyed!
A chilly day at Wrigley Field with the boys @ptklein.com and @aglioeoleo.bsky.social after a lovely #SCMS25. Frot dogs in hand, all the fixings!
Levine: For a time P&G moved on from conventional soaps. Focused on streaming ad/serial hybrid or heavy advertising on Qubi. Beyond the Gates is a return to supporting a traditional soap. #scms25
Levine contrasting current series and its investor P&G with early 00s/10s denigration of soap audiences. Previously described as nonideal audience, too urban, too poor, low quality audiences, etc. Advertisers described it as “downgrading.” #scms25
