There were 401 finishers of this year's SDW50 and this visualisation breaks down the age and gender of the top 50 finishers. The race is very male-dominated and this is no different for the top 50 finishers.
Continuing with my #30DayChartChallenge catch-up - day 10! One more #SDW50 related #dataviz, this time looking at the age and gender breakdown of the top 50 finishers.

The visualistion below shows the distribution of time it takes to travel between checkpoints along the SDW50 route. The stretches that take the longest are between the start in Worthing and Botolphs (approx 11 miles apart) and Saddlescombe Farm to Housedean Farm (approx 10 miles apart). At the other end of the scale are the shortest portions of the course between Alfriston and Jevington, and Jevington to the finish at Eastbourne, both of which are approx 4 miles apart.
For day 9 of #30DayChartChallenge, I'm sticking with the #SDW50 data and this time examine time between the checkpoints along the course. Plotted using {ggridges} because anyone who has run the course will tell you it's quite lumpy π

The South Downs Way 50 is a 50 mile race from Worthing to Eastbourne that runs every April in Sussex, England. Using the official finisher results, these are the average finish times (HH:MM:SS) for the 2024 edition, with the size of the bars representing the number of runners per category
Still playing catch up with #30dayChartChallenge - here's day 8 on the circular theme.
The #SDW50 race took place this past weekend and thought it would be interesting to see what average finish times were like The data was scraped using {rvest} and plotted using #ggplot 's coord_radial function.
