The snow leopard’s gray fur with dark spots and rosettes offers natural camouflage in this species’ rocky terrain and snowy landscape. At the Zoo, you sometimes have to take a closer look to find our pair!

We’re officially in the new year, and have just one more celebration to share! Our chimps, Twiggy (aka Connie), Gombus and Michael were treated to their favorite juice presented in champagne flutes! Can’t get better than that!

In fact, #SFZoo had several colors. I think I am remembering *mine* was green
The last time I went to the SF Zoo, it was cloudy and rainy. This time it was hot and sunny so I was hoping to see how that affected the animals and if things were different. It was just as great as the first time. #SFZoo is fantastic!

A photo of a Mexican Grey Wolf, walking along a dirt path in it's enclosure. It's panting slightly, and reddish brown ears are tipped back. Its paws are white, body is white, grey and black.
A photo of a Conquerel's Sifaka, a medium sized brown black and white lemur. It's clinging to a branch and peering curiously left out of frame
A photo of a black-crowned night heron, leaning to the top right of frame. It has a black top of its head, grey body, and an orange eye facing viewer
Photograph of a snow leopard, peeking over a ledge. It has grey-green eyes and a dusky pink and black speckled nose. There's a fence between viewer and it and it's peering through the gaps
Snow leopards, like Jimmy G., have pretty big paws! Their large paws allow them to better grip when climbing and act as protection from sharp rocks and the cold and snow.

Eat some bell peppers and green beans today in memory of #SFZoo male Western Lowland Silverback Gorilla, Oscar Jonesy, who lived to the age of 43. Oscar is (at least) the 3rd Silverback to die, since 2020, after being under anesthesia. Lets reconsider its use on this population.
A black-crowned night heron, neck extended at a 45 degree angle across the frame, staring intently at something. Bright orange eye towards viewer.
A mexican wolf, facing left towars the frame. Its ears are back and a single canine tooth is bared in displeasure (at the heron stealing its food)
Revenge at the SF Zoo. December 25th 2007 Tatiana the tiger escaped from her cage and went after the three teenagers who were tormenting her. She was shot in the head by police.
This is for you Tatiana. Headed to Faultline Gallery in Oakland.

Another hump day with handsome Bactrius Maximus II! 🐫 Our Bactrian camel is quite suave, wouldn’t you agree?
