My #SIVA24 infographic didn’t quite make the top 3, but it’s not going to do much sitting on my computer.. Great conference, see you next year! #AnSky #TIVA #Anaesthesia
Now the dust of #SIVA24 is settling and you've all hopefully made it home. It's time to put SIVA 2025 in your diary...
Liverpool, City of Culture, home of the Beatles and the lamb banana! #SIVA25 - Save the date
The PERUSE before you Infuse poster
At #SIVA24, I spotted "PERUSE before you Infuse" referenced on two posters AND an infographic.
If anyone else did, and wants to know more, get in touch.
I send out posters for free if I know they will be used. I want to support safer TIVA practice.
Well that's a wrap for #SIVA24 A big thanks to everyone who came to see me
I really enjoyed meeting everyone and seeing the posts from @sivatrainees.bsky.social
Had a great two days at #SIVA24 with @sivatrainees.bsky.social. The social media transition from The Bad Place to Bluesky was noticeable. Feels appropriate that this is the final tagged tweet.
J. Robert Sneyd behind the lectern.
J. Robert Sneyd speaking about Remimazolam. A very entertaining talk!
Remimazolam potentially has the advantages of an offset not dissimilar to propofol, with the CVS stability and reversibility of Midazolam. The best of both worlds, possibly.
There is a niche for this, I suspect.
#SIVA24
Nicholas Plummer speaking about TCI in transfer.
The always wonderful, and dear friend @nickopotamus.co.uk speaking about TCI as a means of making adequate sedation more likely in critically ill transfers.
Expert talk, as always. Also, he and I have just spent lunch talking about dogs, so he gets extra applause from me!

Why Elon has ruined social media
#SIVA24
Simon Edgar speaking about hotel chains where turnover is low, because a focus on staff and staff engagement results in better experiences for those who stay in the hotels. Service users benefit from good organisational culture.
After a good start to day 2 of #SIVA24, I am now being personally attacked in the talk on burnout. I'm half expecting my face to be on the next slide.
All joking aside, Simon Edgar's talk on finding joy in what we do is both moving and motivating.
Cynicism is infectious, and we ARE the culture.
"Mirror, mirror on the wall, which TCI model is the fairest of them all?"

The excellent @sivatrainees.bsky.social talking about the important of dissemination information if you want to create change, at #SIVA24
Infographics and social media are more effective than talks and / or articles can ever be alone.
We need this space to be somewhere people want to be.
My entry for the @sivatrainees.bsky.social #SIVA24 infographic competition.
Is there one model to rule them all? Well tbh I think it doesn't matter all that much, as long as you know your model well!

Some great questions coming through in the panel discussion
BAS (UK Antarctica society) do not require and appendicectomy. Aus & US do!

Panel at the end of session one, day two of SIVA 2024.
Fantastic discussion at the end of the #SIVA24 session on anaesthesia in an austere environment.
It is apparently easier, and faster, to organise a medical retrieval from the international space station than it is from Antarctica!
Dr Kat Ganly speaks about the environmental implications of anaesthesia as part of AntarcTIVA.
Dr Kat Ganly speaks about the environmental implications of anaesthesia as part of AntarcTIVA.
These are made very pointed by working in Antarctica, surrounded by threatened wildlife and the retreating ice sheet.

In terms of anaesthetics
Remifentanil needs to be kept under 25c so can't go via the tropics
Propofol heavy and not happy with the Uber cold Antarctic weather
Ketamine on the other hand is shelf stable in powdered form! And provides excellent anaesthesia and pain relief!

Xrays, ABGs, blood transfusion

Craig Holdstock at the lectern.
Kat Ganly with "AntarcTIVA?" opening slide. This wins talk title of the conference, for me.
Fascinating start to #SIVA24 day 2, on anaesthesia in austere environments.
We started with a great talk from Sindu Sriharan on the hypothetical challenges of space anaesthesia.
Craig Holdstock spoke about critical care in a hyperbaric chamber.
Now we have Kat Ganly with "AntarcTIVA?"
Love it.
