He became the first black person in US history to receive a patent. And what did he do with the money ? He didn't build a mansion. He funded the abolitionist movement. He bankrolled legal challenges. He helped black people escape bondage. He turned his patent into protest. While white inventors were building wealth. He was building freedom. But you won't find his name in textbooks next to Edison for Bill, because they feared what he represented. That a black man could outflank the system and still survive it. That broke me. He took their laws, masses, their system, and used it against them. So why ? Why is it that we still know the name of every white and inventor, but not the first black would follow ?
