This week I have attended the workshop of sPlot, the Global Vegetation Database, in Halle, Germany, where I could present my upcoming project about tree diversity and plant functional types across the forests of the temperate biome!
#sPlot #VegBioLab
The most gritty & grimey SPLOT coming up β including a true phenomenon in the modern dj scene of UK showing how itβs done. Neffa-T at CiaΕo club soon.

This problem is now fixed in #sPlot v4 but also in #sPlotOpen v2 π See the link β¬οΈ that should lead you straight to v2 thanks to Francesco Maria Sabatini who did a great job fixing this issue first reported by Evan Frieke when playing w/ #sPlotOpen data ππ§ͺ

So far, this corrupted data covers only a small fraction of the #sPlot database (<1%) & the sPlot core team has been working on it actively since it was first spotted
We need to cross-check carefully but as far as I know from the team that is working hard on the database, this type of error is minor and being fixed when encountered π So far, only SALVIAS dat were corrupted to the best of our knowledge in the #sPlot team
Just to ponder a bit, this error in the data covers less than 1% of the #sPlot database & it only affected species composition information, not species richness thus not affecting former sPlot findings focusing on local species richness
It was not only fixed in #sPlot v4 but also in #sPlotOpen v2 π See the link β¬οΈ that should lead you straight to v2 thanks to Francesco Maria Sabatini who did a great job fixing this issue first reported by Evan Frieke when playing w/ #sPlotOpen data ππ§ͺ

quite BIG if true... How many #sPlot papers was based on these corrupted data?
Actually applies to many large databases I am afraid & not just #sPlot π For instance #TRY β¬οΈ

I think one important point of #sPlot data is that we are relying on true co-occurence data from community plots while many people tend to rely on occurrence only data to test community assembly at large macroecological extents
π³ New findings π³
Phylogenetic diversity cannot be used as a proxy for functional diversity in vascular plant communities π²π³π΄π΅π±ππΎπΌ We used the #sPlot database & found a pronounced decoupling between phylogenetic & functional diversity β¬οΈ

@cogdog Does #TRUWriter #SPLOT work with the block editor in WP?
I'm having a moment here assessing learner work in #edci335 @EdtechUVic . One group's site is really good...just realized that they found and utilized a #SPLOT for their site. We never talked about SPLOTs in class. https://edci335pod2parallelism.opened.ca/write-3/ I blame @cogdog!
Did I just make a #SPLOT ? @cogdog @brlamb @twoodwar @TrinityWestern
