The pounding of his feet on the ground jolts his body into a trance. The ringing in his ears competes with the nocturnal life. Even at four in the morning, it's 80 degrees out, and Castiel tries to take the run at a slower pace, only the glow of the moonlight lighting his way on the edge of the forest on the switchback streets. Luckily, the fireflies have long gone to their homes. Frustration and a need for a scenery change brought him out to the open Appalachian Mountains that surround his home early this morning after he couldn’t stand the hours ticking by and no sweet lull of sleep. Superstitions and legends of the area dictate to not go outside at night, to not look between the trees, and especially don’t respond to anything that calls your name. His job entails him to be outside during these late hours, the set sun and darkness reflecting the illegal activities that encompass his life. Have become his life. He has a healthy respect for the legends though, choosing to cast his eyes downward so he doesn't trip in the lowlight out of practicality. Turning around to head back to the house, he tries to clear his mind. It is successful for a few hundred yards until right above the ground in front of him two fireflies light up and the thoughts he tried to keep at bay after leaving the porch come barrelling in. He runs faster, his joints protesting at the heavier impact, his lungs starting to ache as he tries to draw in more oxygen. The sweat and breathing are evoking memories without his consent.
