Stillaguamish & Skagit River Flood Events
We understand there is some confusion about the current flooding situation. Stanwood is experiencing two separate flood events involving two different rivers. At this time, there is no active flooding within Stanwood city limits.
➡️Stillaguamish River Flood Event
Water from the Stillaguamish River moved into low-lying areas southeast of the City earlier today. Water levels are expected to begin declining as water is pushed out to Puget Sound through flood gates and pump systems.
City staff are actively managing this event and have been successful in preventing water from breaching city limits.
➡️Skagit River Flood Event
The Skagit River is experiencing extremely high water levels, placing stress on levees and dikes. If a levee or dike breach were to occur, floodwaters would flow south toward Stanwood via Old Pacific Highway. A Flash Flood Watch is currently in place.
If a breach were to happen, it would likely take several hours for water to reach Stanwood city limits and staff are closely monitoring conditions alongside local and regional partners.
The Skagit River is expected to crest around 4 AM.
