📆 #Szczecin #PrawaMiejskie 🫅📜
3 kwietnia 1243 r. Książę Barnim I Dobry nadał Szczecinowi prawa miejskie, oparte na wzorach lokacyjnych z Magdeburga.
A black cast-iron drinking fountain stands on a paved path in the foreground at Jasne Błonia, Szczecin, with freshly turned soil and workers landscaping the area behind it; in the distance, the Monument of the Three Eagles rises against a grey, overcast sky, framed by leafless trees.
At #JasneBłonia park in #Szczecin, they’ve spent the whole winter laying what looks to be like an underground watering system around the flower beds. They’ve nearly finished now, & they’ve also installed a public drinking fountain - excellent! I bet the café next door is delighted 😹
Look at these two twits trying to build their nest on a far too narrow ledge above a chemist’s in central #Szczecin. They keep flying back down to pick up the sticks that have fallen off their nest. I bet they’ll get there in the end, though. Somehow Woodpigeons manage! 😹
A large, mature weeping willow tree with long, cascading yellow-green branches is in the foreground, its canopy extending almost to the ground. Behind it is a low, rectangular school building with an orange façade and rows of windows, partly shaded by the tree. The scene is set on a patchy, grassy area under a bright blue sky with scattered clouds, outside Primary School No. 63 in Szczecin.

A view down the ‘Aleja Kwiatów’ (Flower Avenue), thus called because in the past there used to be flower sellers lining it. When it was renovated, the flower sellers couldn’t come to an agreement with the council (surprise!) so they disappeared. Many residents complain about it to this day, but personally I thought the flower sellers’ tents were a right eyesore. Anyway, the strip is now used for periodic events like this. This time it’s the Easter Market. Small wooden stalls line the avenue, selling a range of crafts and foods, just like a Christmas market but in spring. There’s even Glühwein for the German visitors, but no sparkling wine as yet (I think the locals are missing a trick there). In the foreground, there are large decorative cubes which are often used for sitting on but temporarily have a green covering on them with pastel bows as a decoration. Pastel bunting is strung across the tree-lined avenue for added festive effect.
One of the craft stalls lining the avenue. This one’s selling Easter-themed cushion covers, tea towels and table runners, all made of linen. The designs feature lots of colourful flowers, chicks and bunnies. Very cute.
A stall at the Easter market selling Szczecin-themed mugs and various decorative articles like bird and animal-shaped magnets, wreaths made of spring flowers like crocuses and daffodils. A woman stands in front of the stall looking at its wares. She’s still almost dressed for winter as, despite the sun, there’s a bit of a nip in the air.
One of the food stalls at the Easter market in Szczecin. This one is selling traditional Polish and Szczecin food - definitely not suitable for vegans - along with a range of cocktails and mulled wine for the German visitors. You can try bigos - a pickled cabbage and meat stew; żurek - a fermented rye-based soup with potatoes, carrots, sausage, and hard-boiled egg halves; grilled sausages served with a slice of sourdough bread; their own pâté; and a favourite in Szczecin, Paprykarz - a fish and rice paste seasoned with tomato paste and paprika. Next to the stall is a standing area where you can consume your purchases.
Our Easter market in #Szczecin is in full swing! Colourful stalls selling a range of crafts and foods. Got myself some patriotic Szczecin mugs 😺 More info in ALT text 👍

The cream-coloured façade of two adjoining early 20th-century secessionist tenement buildings on ulica Śląska in Szczecin, Poland. The left-hand building at number 46 houses Palais Blanc, a bridal wear boutique, its name displayed on a dark fascia board above a large shop window in which a mannequin wears an elegant long-sleeved wedding gown with a lace bodice and full satin skirt. The right-hand building at number 45 houses Piotr Kmiecik Modern Design hair salon, displayed on a large circular black sign. A drainpipe runs between the two buildings. Small ornamental shrubs line the pavement in front of an iron railing. But above the fascia boards there are two very small heads peeking out from the gap between the board and the façade: House Sparrows have made their nests there and the males sit and guard their sites keenly.
On Śląska Street in #Szczecin, a big renovation project has been going on. A Danish developer has completely gutted the insides of the old tenement buildings & now they’re luxury flats with business premises underneath. But they’ve left some gaps above the shop signs. Can you see who’s moved in? 😺
A partially frozen pond at Syrenie Stawy in Szczecin on a bright early spring day. Thin ice covers much of the still water surface, with patches of open water reflecting the blue sky. The banks are lined with dry golden reeds and bare-branched deciduous trees stretch across the background beneath a partly cloudy blue sky.
Clusters of snowdrops in bloom on a woodland floor at Łękno in Szczecin. The small white flowers hang delicately from slender green stems, surrounded by leaf litter, twigs, and low ground cover. Dappled sunlight filters through the bare trees behind.
Bright yellow crocus buds pushing up through sparse grass and bare soil at Jasne Błonia park in Szczecin, photographed in early spring sunshine. A dense cluster of tightly closed blooms fills the foreground, with more scattered clumps visible across the grass behind.
A close-up of cornelian cherry dogwood (Cornus mas) in bloom in Szczecin, its bare branches covered in tiny clusters of vivid yellow flowers. A dark-bodied insect forages among the blossoms, one of the earliest pollinators of the year. More flowering branches are visible softly blurred in the background.
We’re in full ‘przedwiośnie’ here in Poland - that in-between season when winter hasn’t quite let go and spring isn’t in full flow yet. But the signs are there! The ponds may still be frozen over in places but the first flowers are on their way. Bring it on! #Szczecin

A close-up of pale yellow, elongated catkins of Common Hazel (Corylus avellana) hanging in clusters from a thin brown branch in woodland at the Syrenie Stawy in Szczecin, Poland. The cylindrical catkins are textured with overlapping scales and lit by low early spring sunlight; the background shows softly blurred tree trunks and dry leaf litter.
A close-up of bright yellow, ribbon-like flowers of Chinese Witch Hazel (Hamamelis mollis) on bare branches at the Summer Theatre in Szczecin, Poland. The narrow, twisted petals radiate from small reddish centres, sharply lit by sunlight against a softly blurred garden background.
And in the race to be first to ‚spring’ to life here in PL, it’s a dead heat between two types of Hazel, the Common variety and the Chinese Witch variety😺 The first is growing wild near the ponds while the second has been planted near the summer theatre. The catkins have opened so fast! #Szczecin
A vanilla soft whip ice cream in a cone with a sunny parkland backdrop.
Since the weather’s so lovely today it would be a crime not to visit Mr Whippy … wouldn’t it? 😹 #Szczecin #TeatrLetni #Platan
A small green shoot forces its way through bare pebbly ground. A couple of dead twigs and grass surround it. Life starts anew!
Amazing to think that a couple of weeks ago everything was frozen solid. Look at these bulbs go! I randomly planted a bunch last autumn in the wasteland that passes for a front garden and now here they are! 😸 #Szczecin #Spring
Flooded beds in the Rose Garden (Różanka) in Szczecin after rain fell on frozen ground; shallow pools of water surround dormant rose bushes, with icy surfaces reflecting bare winter trees and a pergola in the background under a grey sky.
Jasne Błonia in Szczecin partially flooded due to rainwater unable to soak into frozen soil; a large sheet of standing water covers the lawn, where seagulls gather, reflecting the green façade of the Town Hall (known locally as the “Spinach Palace”) beneath overcast winter clouds.
Floodwater spread across the grass at Jasne Błonia in Szczecin after rainfall on frozen ground; seagulls stand on the shallow water and thin ice, with leafless trees, parked cars and residential buildings mirrored in the reflective surface.
A flooded patch of lawn behind Szczecin Town Hall (the Spinach Palace), with muddy meltwater pooling around bare trees and a black lamppost, reflecting the surrounding green historic buildings and parked cars on a grey winter day.
It’s The Thaw Part II in #Szczecin, where the temperature’s suddenly gone up, it’s started raining, and all that water has nowhere to go as the ground is frozen solid, so we’re doing our own version of Swan Lake but with Gulls 😹
A night view of Jasne Błonia in Szczecin. The wide lawn – normally used for picnics and frisbee – is covered in solid ice where melted snow has refrozen, creating a smooth, reflective surface that mirrors the warm glow of the evenly spaced streetlamps. Bare London Plane trees line both sides symmetrically, their branches lit in amber against the dark blue sky. In the distance, the illuminated white monument of the Three Eagles stands at the far end of the field. Dry ornamental grasses fill the foreground, sharply outlined against the frozen ground.
Back home from a week of sunshine, go out for a walk as the streets are ice free & when I reach the park I discover that the snow has melted but hasn’t drained away as the ground is frozen solid & now the snow melt’s frozen so the whole park is an ice rink. Marvellous! #Szczecin

Snow-covered London plane trees line the avenue at Jasne Błonia in Szczecin. Thick trunks mottled in green and brown bark stand in the foreground, their wide, arching branches traced with fresh snow. A quiet white blanket covers the grass and pavement, while parked cars and a lightly falling haze of snow recede into the distance along the road to the right.
This week’s #ThickTrunkTuesday definitely shows our beautiful avenue of London Planes at Jasne Błonia meadow in #Szczecin 😺
A winter view of the Odra/Oder riverfront in Szczecin, Poland. The river in the foreground is partially frozen, its thin sheet of ice reflecting the pale blue morning sky and the waterfront buildings. Across the water stands a row of gabled houses in muted reds, whites and brick tones – part of the reconstructed Old Town, rebuilt after heavy Allied bombing during the Second World War. On the left rises the tall, slender spire of St James’ Cathedral, its brick tower and steep roof catching the low sunlight. On the right, the green-domed towers and pale façades of the Pomeranian Dukes’ Castle overlook the embankment. A small white boat is moored along the quay, and the scene is calm, crisp and clear under a cold winter sky.
Getting nippy now - the river’s starting to freeze in town. But I ‘d rather have it like this than gloomy and rainy 😺 #Szczecin
Winter morning at Plac Andersa in Szczecin, Poland. The sun rises behind a tall church spire topped with a cross, casting a warm golden glow across a pale sky streaked with thin clouds. In the foreground, leafless trees are coated in frost and light snow, their branches sparkling in the low light above a white-covered park landscape.

An ice-covered young tree in a planter glistening under streetlights on a night street in Szczecin, Poland, with parked cars and historic Secession tenement buildings housing shops and cafes on the ground floor in the background.
Everything in the city centre is covered with a layer of ice. So pretty, but treacherous if you’re trying to walk home! #Szczecin
A snow-covered London plane tree on Jasne Błonia in Szczecin, Poland. Fresh snow blankets the trunk, branches and surrounding ground, with a fenced path, winter trees, nearby houses and distant apartment block visible in the background under an overcast sky.

A w #Szczecin w Szczecinie dalej tramwaje nie jeżdżą...
„Warto zatem zaplanować jazdę innym środkiem transportu. Jeśli sytuacja się ustabilizuje, na miasto natychmiast wyjadą wszystkie przewidziane pojazdy” - zapewnia Piotr Krzystek.
Hej #Szczecin jakieś pomysły co do innego środka transportu?
Freezing rain coats a window in the early morning, forming a rippled, translucent layer of ice. Blurred yellow, white and red lights glow through the glass, coming from a nearby park and from cars moving slowly along the road beyond.
What’s the #FirstBirdOfMyDay today? No way of knowing - a thick layer of ice from the freezing rain that’s falling is blocking my view! 🙀 #Szczecin
A grey winter view of the Rose Garden (Różanka) in Szczecin, showing multiple rectangular rose beds arranged in a formal, geometric layout. The beds are shallowly flooded and covered with a thin layer of ice, with rows of dormant rose bushes pruned back to short stems emerging from small mounds of soil. Light snow dusts the surrounding grass paths and the edges of the beds. In the background, leafless deciduous trees and a few evergreen conifers line the garden, with residential buildings partially visible beyond them. The overall scene is quiet and wintry, emphasising the garden’s structure rather than flowering plants.
A wide view of Hasior’s Fiery Birds sculpture in Kasprowicz Park, Szczecin, following its renovation in autumn. The sculpture consists of a long line of brightly coloured, stylised metal birds and abstract forms mounted on wheels, arranged along a low, elevated concrete beam. The birds are painted in vivid reds, blues, greens and yellows, with some forms resembling suns, eyes or flames. The ground beneath and around the sculpture is lightly covered with snow. Behind it, leafless trees frame a calm body of water, with wooded parkland extending into the distance. The contrast between the colourful artwork and the muted winter landscape is clearly visible.
A chilly, grey day today; the rose garden is looking decidedly icy & the only colour is from the renovated Fiery Birds sculpture in the park. It’s also PL’s equivalent of the Children in Need appeal (WOŚP) today - this year we’re collecting for children with gastrointestinal problems #Szczecin
A weather app showing the current temperature in Szczecin, Poland, at 9 am on Friday, 23 January 2026. It shows sun and clouds with a temperature of -11C, real feel -17C, and no precipitation for the next hour.
Hmm not convinced about that sun! Distinctly murky out. Home office it is, then! 😹 #Szczecin
