Dear Chris
I am writing to you on behalf of the General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU) to send you our full solidarity.
We are appalled to hear of your suspension. Since your election, you have supported so many vital campaigns for the wider trade union and labour movement.
We have been proud to work alongside you on vital issues like demanding to make equality real – seeing an end to austerity and ensuring the Employment Rights Bill delivers safe sick pay.
Your support and championing of these issues matters to the 6.7 million trade union members in our country. It also represents the exact values that this Labour Government should living up to.
At the last General Election, our society voted for change, on the manifesto pledge to ‘Make Work Pay’. The suspension of you and other MPs is a direct attack on this promise of change and manifesto pledge.
We will continue to support you and send you full solidarity at this time and in the future.

Brilliant to have @alexsobel.co.uk as a public supporter of the #SafeSickPay campaign.
At £3 an hour, Statutory Sick Pay is so low that many are forced to return to work whilst ill or injured - jeopardising both their physical and mental health. It's time this changed.

Update - we've heard the sick pay amendment is due to be debated now next week - so watch this space!

Stand up for sick pay No one can afford to live on £3 an hour. That's how much people recovering from long term illnesses and injury receive on Statutory Sick Pay. Agree we need to raise the rate? Pledge your support!

Everyone should be able to take time to heal when sick, but many are forced to work while ill or take SSP and be left with shortfalls and debts, me included

As the #EmploymentRights Bill progresses, let’s push for #SafeSickPay

Everyone deserves time to recover when sick. But 1 in 4 UK workers only get £3/hr sick pay. That’s not enough to live on.

We need #SafeSickPay now!

After nearly a decade working on low pay & employment rights, so good to see an #employmentrights bill voted through by MPs this week. Even with fair criticism on the ambition of measures e.g. low sick pay and need for amendments, it's a hugely welcome bill.

Workers can’t get well soon without #SafeSickPay.

Today our coalition gave the ‘Get workers well soon’ card & petition signed by thousands to Number 10 Downing Street & DWP HQ.

To strengthen Statutory Sick Pay the Government must raise the rate & stop plans to reduce sick pay for 300,000 workers.

Workers can’t get well soon without #SafeSickPay.

In the next 72 hours MPs will vote on whether to raise Statutory Sick Pay and protect one third of a million workers from having their sick pay reduced.

We still have time to win change.

The Government committed to strengthening sick pay.

It must do this by raising the rate and ensuring that no one sees a reduction in their sick pay.
