The first group of South African troops deployed to the eastern DRC as part of #SAMIDRC are being repatriated and arrive at AFB Bloemspruit (Bloemfontein) on Friday, 13 June 2025.
#SAMIDRC troops are leaving the city one month after the withdrawal agreement with the #M23 from #Goma. They will pass through Rwanda to Tanzania and then back to South Africa. Of course, the biggest question regarding this departure is whether the troops are taking all of their equipment with them.

Le sommet de la SADC, « très attendu » par Tshisekedi, s’est tenu hier au Zimbabwe. La SADC n’a ni demandé le retrait de l’armée rwandaise de #Goma, ni tenu le Rwanda pour responsable de la mort de soldats de la #SAMIDRC, ni même décidé du déploiement de troupes ou de moyens additionnels en #RDC.

BREAKING: The UN Security Council adopted a resolution on Tues authorising the UN #MONUSCO mission to provide operational and logistical support to the SADC #SAMIDRC mission in the eastern DRC.
This will greatly assist SAMIDRC who are weak on logistics.
Our forces in the DRC as part of #SAMIDRC are still heavily under resourced and critically short of fire power, adequate ground transport and air support.
Despite the recent airlift, the #SANDF is not and cannot be properly capacitated under the current funding restrictions.
Bad news is coming.

The M23 rebel group in the eastern #DRC is reporting that the Congolese army (FARDC) and "coalition" (#SADC #SAMIDRC?) troops are attacking their "different positions at Karubo, Mushaki, Kagundu."
Mushaki is less than 10km direct (55km by poor road) from the town of Sake.

The aircraft are bringing back old/inoperative equipment from the closing DRC #MONUSCO mission (Op Mistral) and new equipment & weapons for the DRC #SAMIDRC (Op Thiba) mission.

Expenditure to be incurred for this deployment is R805,057,755. This is in addition to the 2,900 troops committed for the #SADC #SAMIDRC force.
All indications are that the MONUSCO mission will end around June, thus allowing troop numbers to transfer to the SAMIDRC mission?

One of many recent flights, looks like the DRC is making good on its pledge to assist #SouthAfrica with logistics for its #SAMIDRC mission in the eastern DRC.
