So, Harrassowitz didn't send me a shipping notification, and USPS never gave me a failed delivery notice, but this is at last in my hands a few weeks late!
This monograph is a wonderful 880 page, 1.6kg brick, and my Winter Break ends tomorrow, but I'll do my best...

Suffice it to say I was super jazzed to find a drachm depicting the king alone. I've discussed the "dynastic" coinage of Wahrām at some length in another post. Wahrām's are certainly among the most beautifully engraved Sasanian coins.

I wonder if this reform may somehow be related to the survival of two Sasanian coin dies (RY 11 and RY 15) supposedly found near Mosul, which are now housed in the Münzkabinett of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.

One particularly interesting group of ostraca were found at Chāl Ṭarkhān-ʿEshqābād, just south of modern Tehran, in 1936.📍The site was near #Rayy, an important late #Sasanian and early #Islamic city.

This Arab-Sasanian drachm of ʿAbdallāh ibn al-Zubayr has a curious inscription. On the obverse margin, after the Arabic بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ (bismallah) is a Middle Persian word transliterated as bplwy. Many of ibn al-Zubayr's coins have variants of bpl/bplw/bplwy/bplwyn on them. 1/

Any speculation about what's going on here? Did he rip the antlers off of the stag he's riding?!? Seems pretty cold, if so.

I love this Sasanian bowl with its absurd looking sea animals, formerly in the collection of the Museum für Islamische Kunst (inv. no. I. 2657). Evidently it was stolen in 1922.
