🧠 ⚙️ Saturday Science: The Human Machine
How does your brain help you think, move, learn, and adapt to the world around you?
Join us on Saturday, March 28, from 1–4 PM to explore the incredible systems that make the human brain work.

A day on Venus lasts longer than a year on Venus.
On Venus, one rotation on its axis takes the equivalent of 243 Earth days and the planet's orbit around the Sun takes the equivalent of 225 Earth days.
#SaturdayScience Fact:
The average person has 67 different kinds of bacteria living in their belly button.

#SaturdayScience. Last week heard a great talk by Christine Curcio (UAB). Though not her big point, I was excited to learn how retinal health (e.g., development of soft drusen) depends upon many of the same factors that influence cardiovascular health, diet chief among them. #1
It's #SaturdayScience, where we reconnect with our excitement around it. (Lose that > lose everything).
Here, we get to be *excited*. We don't need to justify it. We just celebrate.
What are you excited about this week? A finding of yours? A paper you read? An idea or an interaction you had?
How great! There's nothing like thinking through a hard problem as a group. And serving as a sounding board can be so fascinating and rewarding.
There are no rules to #SaturdayScience. It's just about amplifying rays of sunshine in the middle of a storm.
Working with friends in different areas to come up with a physio model of the interplay of eye movement and social function. Being a sounding board for others' projects trying to clarify diagnostic boundaries for better treatment. #SaturdayScience (does it have to be a finding?)
It's #SaturdayScience once again, where we remind ourselves what we are fighting for.
What sciencey things are you excited about this week? Maybe something you're working on? Or a paper you read / a talk you heard?
The more I dive into this dataset from the Insula, the better it gets. Our paper is coming along very nicely (and I can’t wait to share it!!)
And I booked my first proper talk about this new direction (mood); it’s a ways off, but satisfying to have it on the calendar.
You?
#SaturdayScience
Along with those cats, let’s start a weekly reminder of what we’re fighting for: #SaturdayScience.
What are you celebrating or are excited about this week?
A satellite created the most detailed map of the ocean floor, finding hundreds of previously missed underwater features. The new findings will provide information about ocean currents, seawater nutrient transport, and the geologic history of Earth's oceans. #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean #SaturdayScience
Scientists discover new genus and species of predatory creature in the deep ocean, and name it “Darkness.” But before you get too nervous, the extremely large predatory amphipod ‘Dulcibella camanchaca’ measures just 1.57 inches and resembles a pale, nearly translucent shrimp. #SaturdayScience
And now the kid and hubby are off together and I'm going to sit with my tea and get some of that writing done. #SaturdayScience
Day 110: A little weekend work in my home office. #365scienceselfies #saturdayscience
Discovered some cool new results in my data when working up plots for a talk. Must...focus...on...task...at...hand. #saturdayscience
