The cave stretches back some 150 feet and inside is a soft calcite rock known locally as 'The Pope's Nose', into which folk would stick rusty pins or nails as protection against the 'Little People' #scaryfairies

While retold for children, Cecily Rutley's tale of pixies kidnapping a child from Chudleigh draws on material on 'The Pixies Hole' related by Mary Jones in 'The History of Chudleigh' (1852). I've been there, but the cave has now been gated off #scaryfairies #devonfolklore
