While he has largely fallen out of favour in the years since his death in 1844, he was well enough regarded in his day to be buried in Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey alongside the likes of Chaucer, Dickens, Browning, Kipling and Tennyson.

Caravaggio: Medusa I never thought I'd find myself here: sharing a platter with John the Baptist, a novelty favour at a wedding feast for some spoilt rich kid. Hero? I beg to differ. Still, I'm quite the dowry: since Athena saw fit to put a halt to me and Poseidon (as if she'd never screwed on an altar!) and gave me a face to make the boys cower, I'm one of a kind, a collector's item. Or I was. But even my severed head is a loaded weapon, my dead babies still writhe and rear to bite: so place me on the top table for the big reveal, drink down my hatred with your final meal.
