This week’s #SecularPolitics focuses on #secularvoters partisanship in the 2024 election.
Per AP/NORC VoteCast 2024 voters were 45% D, 50% R & 6% I. Secular voters show a significant Democratic lean, with 64% D & 28% R (8% I). secularpolitics.us/sp20250516
The chart shows that Kamala Harris's 2024 voter coalition was significantly more secular and religiously diverse than Donald Trump's, with 31% of her supporters identifying as secular compared to just 13% for Trump. In contrast, Trump's base was more heavily religious, especially Protestant (28%) and Other Christian (22%), surpassing national averages in both categories. Catholic voters were more evenly split between the two candidates. Harris also drew more support from Jewish, Muslim, and other minority religious groups, while Trump’s coalition was more concentrated among traditional Christian denominations.
This week's analysis finds that #secularvoters are overrepresented among Democratic voters and underrepresented among Republicans. This trend aligns with the Democratic Party attracting secular support and the GOP leaning into Christian identity politics.
