X-ray imaging of Acacia caerulescens seed. Healthy undamaged seed appears as pale white roughly circular object on a black background with a small protruding elaiosome at the top. The seed on the left is damaged and shows a small faint shape of a small wasp inside the seed.

A photograph of a microscope image of the small wasp. The wasp was damaged during dissection of the hard seed and appears orange on a white background. The wasp has a distinct forked ovipositor.

Is it a seed or a shadow? No, it's a mystery phytophagous wasp. Someone suggested it's Bruchophagus but we've not tried the keys yet so we'll see but any suggestions are most welcome. #SeedEcology #SeedPredation #entemology #ecology
