Learn more about how #seismologists are preparing to study icy worlds in this month's SSA At Work with Kat Dapré! buff.ly/J2mNECo #Enceladus @katdapre.bsky.social @univofmaryland.bsky.social
Thank you to our #SSA2026 Sponsors ISTI and Kinemetrics! We're grateful for your long-time support of #seismologists and our Society. Be sure to visit in them in our Exhibit Hall in Pasadena during the meeting. ⚒️
#spectral sequence#스펙트럴 #Seismologists can use the horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) technique to study site effects, and it's possible that method can even be applied to ocean-bottom sites
🎆 SSA HONORS:🎆 Congratulations to @scrippsocean.bsky.social Peter Shearer, our 2026 Harry Fielding Reid Medalist! Read more here about why his colleagues consider him one of the leading observational #seismologists of his generation: buff.ly/No49vYI ⚒️ 🧪
We're offering a free, one-hour mentoring session on career and academic pathways for #seismologists. The virtual session is on 17 September, and SSA members can register for free here: buff.ly/XGkQKwi
Nominations are now open for the Charles F. #Richter #Early-Career Award, part of SSA’s longstanding commitment to supporting the next generation of #seismologists. Find out how you can nominate the next Richter recipient here: buff.ly/9mKDicj

Hey fellow #seismologists, a question. 🤔
Did seismic networks recorded US bombing on Iran?
Any estimate of magnitudes, number of explosions, etc…?
⚒️
#Seismologists can distinguish a nuclear-type explosion—such as a #bunker-buster #bomb—from a natural quake by analysing the wave patterns: explosion-induced tremors usually show strong #P‑waves and lack #S‑waves, whereas this quake displayed both, confirming it’s natural.
Quakes, tsunamis—Sasquatches are tracking them. Are you ready to act? 🏔️🌊 Don’t ignore the signs. #QuakePrep #TsunamiSafety #DisasterAwareness #StayReady
When the ocean says 🌊👀, the Sasquatch says 🥽📡. Fissures are GLOWING, fam. Bigfoot science is quake.
🌊 If you feel shaking, move to higher ground immediately. Sasquatches don’t wait for alerts, and neither should you. #TsunamiWarning #EvacuationZones #DisasterPreparedness #PNWReady

Even #Sasquatch #seismologists are hard at work studying #earthquakes and #tsunami off the #OregonCoast 🌊👣 Know your #evacuation zones, the Ocean or some hillside might decide to nope out or visit you someday. 🚩🏔️ #Sealab #PNW #QuakeSafety #Cascadia #subduction #landslide #TheBigOne
The text reads: June 23-24, London Croydon; HeaMES 2025; 6th International Conference on Health Monitoring of Civil and Maritime Structures. There is a photo of the hotel in Croydon where the event will be held, and below it there are 4 images representing various types of structures that benefit from Structural Health Monitoring: an offshore oil rig platform, a large cable-stayed bridge, a dam, and high-rise buildings. The bottom left corner says Sponsored by GeoSIG (with the company logo), and the bottom right corner has the ASRANet logo (another sponsor), along with the text: Submit abstracts to: info@asranet.co.uk by February 23, 2025.
#Engineers & #Seismologists: Have you heard about #HeaMES2025?
Check out tinyurl.com/hvasv3h4 to read the flyer about this SHM conference for Civil & Maritime Structures. HeaMES 2025 will be held in London this June. There is currently a call for papers, with abstracts due by Feb. 23. Join us!⌛️
I just started teaching #seismology for #geophysics BSc students and I was wondering if any of the #seismologists in my network could suggest some helpful #resources that I can use 🙏👀
