Katima Mulilo council repairing malfunctioning sewage pump
The Katima Mulilo Town Council’s chief executive officer, Raphael Liswaniso, says the repair of a malfunctioning sewage pump at the Zambezi region town is continuing in full swing.
After the town’s sewage pump station seven experienced a major malfunction, the town council issued a warning of possible sewage waste overflows in some parts of Katima Mulilo.
Liswaniso told The Namibian on Tuesday that as a temporary measure, the town council is going to procure a submersible pump to build a bypass at station seven.
He added that the bypass will ensure that sewage waste will be pumped through to the ponds while repairs are being done.
“The challenge we are having is that there is a continuous inflow of sewage waste to the pump station. As a result, the pump station itself is overflowing. We are now letting the sewage waste flow into the open area behind it. However, the area is now full,” he said.
Liswaniso appealed to residents to be patient, especially those living around the pump station, which has been affected by the overflowing sewage waste and stench.
“We feel bad that we have to expose our residents to such hazardous conditions; however, it’s an issue beyond our control. However, we are hard at work to resolve it,” he said.
