Scottish collies were used as well as the small 'toony' dogs on Shetland Island to create the new smaller breed "Shetland Sheepdog". They have the long double coat of the collie and strong herding instincts. BUT they are not collies. Loved all my Shelties. #SheltieMom 💜

Nope they are not miniature anything. They are their own breed. Sadly, many backyard breeders refer to them as mini, because some may not know what a Sheltie is. But Lassie (collie) is well known. And yes, they are very smart. #SheltieMom
