Saved or Shattered? A Teenager’s Descent Into Evangelical Extremism Liz Boltz Ranfeld, who was featured in the recent Shiny Happy People 2 documentary, was fully immersed in the “Teen Mania” lifestyle. She went on several overseas mission-trips that caused more fear and guilt due to the inability to faith heal on the spot, however it opened her eyes to other cultures that were being labeled as “demonic”. Her father was a well known Christian singer/song writer, Ray Boltz, which put all eyes on her to be a perfect example. Fully blind to the harms being caused at Teen Mania, she only started deconstructing after her parents forbid her from doing the full time-year-long-internship after her brother nearly died and she was stranded overnight at a busy airport with no help from the organization. Her father later came out as gay just as their whole family was doing away with Christian Fundamentalism and she would end up being one of the most critical voices against TM. What I DO KNOW, as a former member of the ultra conservative Christian Nationalism community, is that the Religious Patriarchy demands Shiny Happy People, especially if you're a woman. In this video, I'll share some of my own experiences with religiously instilled dissociation during traumatic events in my own life, and examine what I think is the root cause of Erika's bizzarre behavior. Christianity is a fucking cult, and I didn't realize that it actually existed in the wild until now. I was at a Goodwill the other day, and a woman casually asked a sales clerk how she was doing. She responded that she felt blessed today, and I smiled and thought that was the end of it. She continued with "I'm blessed today because a family member passed from COVID, and I feel like my time is coming soon." The woman who initiated the conversation exclaimed, "oh my goodness, I can't wait to go and see Jesus and be reunited with my loved ones!" The clerk agreed, and they kept talking about looking forward to death (both mid 50s-early 60s age). I walked away literally terrified that people think like this. I've read about things online about this sort of thing happening, and l've heard stories, but I always thought they were fake. I just moved from a very liberal city in PNW to a conservative, military town in middle America. I fucking hate this new reality. I want to live. I don't want to die. I physically cannot comprehend this.
