It’s the ninth Short Disappointments comic, first panel is simply the text “Do you ever get that thought?” the next panel features a man walking out an elevator and the panel asks “do you ever get that thought when you’re halfway out of an elevator-“, third panel now, showing the elevator cord snapping and the elevator falling while the guy is still halfway out, cutting him in half. Above the grisly scene (as in causing horror or disgust, not the bear that eats salmon) the text reads “that the metal cable holding it will break, leading to the car falling down…” it continues below the grisly (but not the grisly bear grisly!) scene “…splitting you in half?”. Finally the last panel, the suspense of the climax of the story is undeniably undeniable, shows the man laying down split in half, blood everywhere. Did he at least survive being split in half hopefully? No, no he didn’t. He’s dead, but at least the gore-y side is facing away from the viewer, so there’s that. The text simply reads “cause I do” followed by a massive crash noise, presumably the elevator falling to its doom on the first floor. Cops come in, one takes off his sunglasses, revealing another pair of sunglasses beneath the first pair, and grimaces. “It was a murder-suicide” said the cop, seeing how the murder suspect, refusing to face justice for the murder of the man in the comic, chose to destroy itself by crashing into the first floor (there’s no basement), shattering the car and destroying the elevator completely… Wait why do we call the main part of an elevator a car? You don’t see elevators on highways.

The comic describes the definition of an invasive species, showing different species that are considered invasive such as rats running along ship ropes at ports to reach new areas, Kudzu killing the local wildlife and pushing it out, covering everything, and a rabbit in Australia (they cause millions in damages); ending with a picture of a fat guy uncaringly throwing a foam soda cup behind him on the ground at a park, joining the trash bags and other litter on the ground nearby a heavily polluted stream with a dead fish floating in it. There’s a factory in the background, the source of the pollution in the river and air, as it spews a bunch of smoke from its chimneys. The joke is when you think about it we’re sort of an invasive species. Woah, profound. (Takes out a comically large Victorian era tobacco pipe made of wood and asbestos, starts smoking from it) What if we’re the bad guys? What if- (blows a smoke ring) -we were the real coronavirus all along? Dang. (Coughs due to smoking said Victorian tobacco pipe)
