Hi, #readers!
I thumbed through my BEST AMERICAN SHORT STORIES for the end of #shortstorymonth and found a lot of very interesting ephemera I'd used as bookmarks.

Y'all know me. I thought, "How cool!"
So, I've created a thing: #EphemeralBookmark

Let's post & hashtag our favorite curious bookmarks!

Welp. #ShortStoryMonth has drawn to a close. I'm sharing my pride and joy: my BEST AMERICAN SHORT STORIES collection.

I've asked for BASS as a birthday/Christmas gift for years and years and years. My first was the 1989 volume, guest edited by Margaret Atwood, and the series ed was Shannon Ravenel!

"QUIETLY, LOVING EVERYONE is a reference to the ways we don’t show up for each other, or the ways we fail to show up [...]"

We talk to Curtis John McRae about his debut collection with Vehicule Press for our #shortstorymonth series #theshortofit

Another recommendation for Short Story Month: Some People Let You Down by Mike Alberti. Beautifully written, melancholy stories by a local MN author and community asset.

I could see Fabrizio over Marco’s left shoulder, shaking his head vigorously, trying, like Jiminy Cricket, to make me do the right thing. I knew that the right thing would be to look Marco in the eye and simply say “No.” But something inside me told me this was going to be a good story, and I’m willing to do a lot for a good story—including things I’m not always proud of.

Perfectly timed for #ShortStoryMonth, and for a moment when #libraries are on our minds (and, frankly, simply to brighten my own morning): Etgar Keret's "Library Lovers" (trans. Jessica Cohen). etgarkeret.substack.com/p/library-lo...

But when the hospital called ME after he was stable, when the hospital called ME and asked if I could see him, when the hospital called ME because his only living relative was an ELDERLY AUNT holed up in a nursing home halfway across the country, when the hospital called ME because, quite frankly, he must have forgotten to update his emergency contacts after our breakup, when the hospital called ME because, to be even more frank, he was apparently still not on speaking terms with his EX-WIFE and had no one else, not a single relative or friend or halfway dependable acquaintance except for ME—RACHEL, his estranged EX, an ANXIOUS MIDDLE-AGED WOMAN HAVING A BAD HAIR DAY—I couldn’t help thinking that it already sounded like a movie.
