There is a clear gelatinous animal swimming above the sediment covered sea floor. It has two lobes, one in the front and one in the back and each has something pink trailing out from it

Floating above the sediment covered sea floor and in front of the dark water background is a gelatinous siphonophore. It’s tentacles are trailing down off of its body. The surrounding water has floating biological debris better known as marine snow

Gelatinous creatures for the win! Bloody belly comb jelly lampocteis, the middle are the same ctenophore but I have no idea what genus. And the last one is a type of physonect siphonophore. Dive 784 #Siphonophriend

Final shots dive 782. 3 octopuses. The first two I am not positive on their genus. The third one looks like what some ceph peeps have called cirroctopus. And then a ray with a siphonophore photobomb. #AntarcticClimateConnections #MarineLife #SouthernOcean #Siphonophriend @schmidtocean.bsky.social

An acorn worm going diagonally across the photo, with the head in the upper left. It is translucent and Orange colored at the head, yellow in the middle and clear the rest of the way. Towards the back end you can see the sediment in the digestive tract

A close up of a translucent white anemone like animal. The oral disk is in the center with tentacles radiating out and tipped in solid white

In the center, floating above the sea floor is a colonial siphonophore that looks like a mass of orange ribbons with a white tuft on top.

On top of the seafloor is a green proboscis of a spoonworm that is being retracted. The forked ends are twisting as they move.

Last photos from dive 752 of SOI. Lots of soft things. Different kind of acorn worm than earlier, a zoom on a corallimorph (almost looks like it’s practicing its duck face), a dandelion siphonophore, and a neat shot of a retracting spoonworm. #ChileMargin2024 #MarineLife #Siphonophriend

Coming up off the seafloor is a peach ball shaped animal. A colonial siphonophore of some kind. Up above that is the arm of brittle star coming out of the sediment

In the center of the screen in the hollow of some rocks is a purple octopus. It’s arms are curling toward the center and have two rows of suckers going down. The mantle of the octopus is facing down and you can see one eye in the middle of the screen

you can see the translucent Head, mantle and thorax of an acorn worm resting on the sediment. The head and mantle are pink and color while the rest of it is white

SOI dial 752. That anatomy looks like a bloomin onion 😂 benthic siphonophore (odd dandelion maybe?), a lovely octopus, and a closeup of an acorn worm #ChileMargin2024 #MarineLife #Siphonophriend

A colonial animal known as a siphonophore that looks like a mass of oblong balloons all tied in the center with what looks like some curly ribbon coming off of it. Floating in the middle of the ocean, likely hunting.

A red colonial animal known as a siphonophore. There is a section of red swimming bells in the upper left corner. Coming off of it is a cluster of other individuals, many of which have left long trailing tentacles in the water.

A peach colored slime star sitting on the seafloor. The arms have a bumpy texture and the membrane between the arms is smooth.

A mix of nice zooms from SOI back in November off the coast of Chile. The first and the last one are two different bathyphysa siphonophores, aka the flying spaghetti monster. Then there is a marrus orthocanna siphonophore and a hymenaster slime star. #ChileMargin2024 #Siphonophriend

This is a colonial animal called a siphonophore. It has swimming bells that can be seen to the top of the screen and then a long travel section that is red in color which contains individuals that have tentacles dragging through the water

Siphonophore love! Still behind on dives. These were from dive 749 off the coast of Chile with SOI back in November. First one ID’d as desmophys hematogaster on discord, then a marrus orthocanna, and not sure what genus the last one is, but gorgeous! #ChileMargin2024 #Siphonophriend
