CO2 X warming treatment in a tide pool. Black boxes on the high ledge hold batteries & circuit boards, with tubes leading to heating elements in the pool. The smaller black box generates CO2, which bubbles into the pool.

Just out in @jexpbiol.bsky.social: Great work by @racinerangel.bsky.social documenting effects of a 6-month factorial field manipulation of warming X CO2 on intertidal mussel shell thickness, strength, & corrosion. #SitkaNSF @cascadejbs.bsky.social journals.biologists.com/jeb/article/...

New paper based on our #SitkaNSF fieldwork! Tidepool community respiration rates differ dramatically night & day due to differences in temperature & O2, w/ implications for how we quantify ecosystem responses (e.g., productivity) to global change....

At high latitudes “night” sampling of tidepool O2 fluxes means dark enough that the light meter doesn’t register photosynthetically active radiation. #SitkaNSF @CascadeJBS

The final crew on the final day @ John Brown’s Beach. It’s tough leaving a favorite site not knowing when you’ll be back, especially after working there night & day in all seasons for years. #SitkaNSF @millerlp @gabkalb @gallaher_grant @zofiadanielson @CascadeJBS @KristyKroeker

Carrying the very last backpack of batteries away from our #SitkaNSF study site. Since we started warming tidepools at John Brown’s Beach in spring of 2019, >20 TONS of batteries have been carried on this trail. Many thanks to all who helped! @CascadeJBS @millerlp @KristyKroeker

I spent the morning at our #SitkaNSF field site taking final photos of the tidepools & beginning to remove temperature dataloggers. We protect the loggers w/ pieces of bicycle inner tube, & critters - like this #Idotea #isopod - sometimes hide in them. @CascadeJBS
