I'm loving that my cousin Charlie texted me first to tell me he heard me talking #sneckdowns this morning on the Boston show "Living on Earth"!
A bike lane that has been plowed such that there is a snow bank separating the bike lane and the travel lane.
You've heard of #sneckdowns, but about snecklanes! The first 30ft of this bike lane is usually unprotected and often blocked by illegally parked cars. The bike lane plow gave it protection! Maybe we should keep it like that. @somervilleinfr1.bsky.social @cityofsomerville.bsky.social
Welp! Looks like the northeast will have a good chance of temporary #sneckdowns!
What's that you say? WATCH!

❄️ Schnee macht #sneckdowns sichtbar!
Just the link to my latest Streetfilm in this article on #sneckdowns and NYC snow talk generated a few thousand watches. If you are a journalist, writer or blogger and want to feature me....well I will probably say yes. 😀👍
Story in the New Yorker about #sneckdowns and me! This sequence of sentences might be the coolest thing ever written about me. 😀😆 i didn’t think too much of shooting stuff morning of surgery. I mean, “Why not?” 😀😀

To the cranks & ignorant electeds who claim that #sneckdowns are evidence of nothing...check out this MASSIVE truck easily and carefully make this turn 4 days after 🌨️❄️ stopped. We could easily put 5-foot curb extensions/ #daylighting to make this street safer.… #Urbanism @thewaroncars.bsky.social
Proof of being bionic! But #sneckdowns are more important!!!
Photo of crosswalk and intersection showing pattern of accumulated snow at the corner over what is normally road, illustrating that cars can navigate the intersection with less road real estate than we currently give them.

First long walk through DC post-storm, which means it's time to appreciate one of an urbanist's favorite things: #sneckdowns that show where we could reclaim road space from cars for traffic-calming and pedestrian safety.
The #sneckdowns At 3rd/sheridan/North Dakota NW are epic.
a crude edited photo of a sneckdown, red line is actual curb and green is potential new human space

finally had a chance to edit my #sneckdowns from yesterday. very crude!
1. 11th and Clinton - pretty clear we could bump out the sidewalk quite a bit here
2. Clinton & 10th - same, but southbound. look at the opposite side, so much wasted space
Remember to post pics of the #sneckdowns that you see — and tag us and the mayor!
This time is actually the best time to document. Why? Drivers are back on the roads. It’s also been a heavy snowfall. The #sneckdowns are SOLID. Some completely frozen. And with temps for the next week not getting past freezing they are here for a while.
Go document!!
There are fairly large #sneckdowns all around NYC Hall!
I recorded a short vid I hope to get up later! @nyc.streetsblog.org @openplans.org #Urbanism
Remember: it’s essentially 3 days after snow has stopped. You can easily find snowy sidewalk extensions 3, 5, 10+ ft from the curb!
I want my municipality to take note of #sneckdowns too
Kudos as always to @streetfilms.bsky.social for the archival #sneckdown footage!

Snow is nature's urban planner: It can show us what parts of the roadway drivers don't use — and what can be reclaimed for pedestrians.
Post your photos and videos of all the #sneckdowns you see and tag us and @mayor.nyc.gov so today's winter wonderland can inspire better streets year-round!
Great grid showing (via #sneckdowns) how you can put traffic calming in your neighborhood.
Certain a weekend snow event in the northeast with a foot+ predicted for DC, Philly, NYC, etc.
Great time to document our streets using "nature's tracing paper"! Get some BEFORE & AFTERS now in your nabe!
Seems to be a bit of resurgence in the last week about #sneckdowns!
Did you know we made a comic about it?
Hovering ten storeys above the street.
Across from Berczy Park.
What could Front St, Scott St and Wellington St look like with expanded pedestrian areas, narrowed driving lanes and additional turning radius for
vehicles to force drivers to slow down?
Daydreaming about the #Sneckdowns
A street intersecting another street at a diagonal angle. Snow remains where most car drivers don't drive or park, making for a crosswalk that looks far narrower than usual. Photo taken on December 15, 2025, 6:33 PM.
Nature doing @council.nyc.gov's work, because @nycspeakeradams.bsky.social refused to bring Intro 1138 up for a vote:
#sneckdowns FTW. Definitely makes this diagonal intersection less stressful.
This snow will soon melt away. Hopefully no other lives will also melt away at the hands of drivers.
Dusting in Manhattan yields immediate #sneckdowns
Look at all that space cars don't need. #sneckdowns

Everyone talks about car #sneckdowns but the snow also shows all the wasted cycle space that could be used to widen paths
Always nice to see photos of #sneckdowns, but don't forget that vehicles have bodies which overhang wheel tracks and wheelbases which don't track through the snow.
Monday we are going to bring out the #sneckdowns in DC…
Great example of #sneckdowns and why it’s critical to get photos of it when it happens. It’s impossible to argue in good faith against it.
