Exit Velocity and Parable of the Sower Several of the people who reviewed my 2024 science-fiction/political-fiction novel, Exit Velocity, compared it to Octavia Butler’s The Parable of the Sower. I had read Butler’s Lilith’s Brood trilo…

Yet this remarkable transition is absent from the national conversation - symptoms aside.

That's probably because if we were hearing about it, we'd realize that we had to do something about it.

Limited time only — Exit Velocity, normally $18, for $15.10. I have no idea how long Amazon is offering this, but it's a great deal. I've never seen (or sold) Exit Velocity at less than $15. #bookdeals #bookclubs #socialjusticebooks #speculativefiction tinyurl.com/bdh9ytmr

The text from the first page of a book. As follows:

“Hi, my name is John Smith, he/him.”
That’s how I have to talk every day. Greeting, name, pronouns. Have you ever hated saying your own name? Have you ever felt so shoved aside and out of place that you wanted to scream? If so, then you’ll understand my story. You’ll understand who I am and see how we’re similar in a lot of ways—here, in my memoirs. That’s what I’m calling them anyway, because it sounds a lot better than calling it my prison therapy mandated “journaling”.
I’m an average White, brown-haired, six-foot, “cis” male, he/him, and whatever else you want to call me. I didn’t choose to be born this way, so I don’t see why I deserve to automatically be treated like the bad guy. Why do I deserve less for being who I am? Isn’t that supposed to be “celebrated” now? All that “being yourself” bull? So why does it always feel like I’m treated differently for doing the same thing as everyone else does?
America wasn’t like this before. It’s 2024 now, but only fifty years ago a man was treated with respect for who he was. His skin tone didn’t matter, and no one asked him for his stupid pronouns every time they met. You could just be whoever you were! Nowadays, it’s not like that. Every time you meet someone new, they ask for your name and pronouns. Every. Time. They don’t bother to smile at you either. What’s worse—if you don’t ask them for theirs then they get uncomfortable.
