While we didn't have a PS2 back then, I was most hyped for SoulCalibur III and considered it my personal GOTY of 2005. It even got me to finally consider buying a PlayStation after focusing mainly on Nintendo, though that happened a few years later.

Haven't brought up Siegfried's actual story, but he's committed atrocities as the primary host under Soul Edge. It's why Nightmare's body and style are similar.
It's a tragic story of patricide and guilt.
But for now, Siegfried finds temporary peace...

I do like that each of the characters have their own journey or story strictly by The Soul Swords.
Lots of endings. Was the Canon one like a secret determined once the sequel released? Never considered that 🤔.

As a heads up more weapons are unlocked after a select group of weapons are purchased and you run through tale of souls while having them.
Usually the characters' "Ultimate Weapon" ^^!

Best at mid-stage, with advancing moves, and a good chunk of built-in parrys in his stances.
Fun to play if you can anticipate the enemy!

Raphael's story a good example that the soul swords crave sustenance.
Irregardless of the wielders' wishes, the sword(s) desire souls.
Soul Edge caused his strife, but Raphael still sought it out; its power he hoped would cure his child.

A man and his slowly demonfiying daughter. Raphael's story went over my head when I was younger.
It's a sad story of a found family just trying to find somewhere they can be at peace. (It gets really light-hearted once Amy is cured, thankfully!)

There's also the custom character classes alt weapon masteries. God, I love how much I get to do just do for $10 🤤

Playing Astaroth is empowering.
Swat opponents with generally safe big moves to keep distance, hit into walls, or ring them out.
He has decent sweeps for knockdowns and a few key moves to help at close range.
He's one of my favorite big bodies to play!

Rock and Astaroth are both fun to play. Don't let their big size make you think they are luggish or slow.
There's enough mechanics to have them keep up with the "faster" characters.

Got the standard roster unlocked. Didn't realize I was missing Yoshimitsu until now.
Going to keep doing story runs to unlock stages and the extra characters as well as amass gold :p

There's a way to glitch money but it's really easy to get gold from just playing :V...
Also I believe by 2,500? battles everything unlocks/enters the shop if people want to spam skirmishes to get things that way ^^!

Xianghua, or "X" as she's sometimes addressed, is a whimsical and evasive swordswoman.
Range takes a little adjustment, but she's also really cute, positive, and friendly ^^~
