Here's an update on my #SpooktasticReads bingo, which I will keep working on for the next few weeks.
I have finished THE GRAVE THIEF by Dee Hahn (feat a grave digging protagonist) and WHEN THE RECKONING COMES by LaTanya McQueen (Southern gothic horror)

#Spooktasticreads Day 13: this post was supposed to be a lot more interesting, but I ran out of time this week. Instead it's just a hodgepodge of creepy stories and media to enjoy this Halloween.
Have a great night! πππ©Έ #horrorsky

Happy Hallowe'en - time for the traditional month-end reading round up as I say farewell #SpooktasticReads and prepare for #ScifiMonth!
#spooktasticreads Day 12: Sorry for the late post (although to my credit, it's still technically Oct 30th here.) I'm sharing one of my of my favorite horror storytelling mediums: analog horror. πππ©Έ #horrorsky

#spooktasticreads day 11: book review of This Wretched Valley by Jenny Kiefer. Gory and somewhat confusing, this horror is a mishmash of everything, served with a liberal dose of blood. πππ©Έ #horrorsky

#spooktasticreads Day 10: here are some of my favorite podcasts that specialize in creepy stories (of both the written & experienced variety.) Everything from classic creepypastas and indie tales to paranormal war stories and work hauntings. πππ©Έ #horrorsky

Today's #SpooktasticReads prompt is creepy forest: I'm returning to the Elmever to finally review Premee Mohamed's The Butcher of the Forest
I have a #SpooktasticReads challenge for you - can you help me identify a book based on my scanty memories of it?
15-30 years ago
Secondary world fantasy
Vampires invade a fantasy ?kingdom, ?princess is captured but not killed/turned. Narratives follow her vs her would-be rescuers.
Any ideas?
#spooktasticreads Day 9: this is my favorite horror short on YT, and it came from a comedian. 5/5 acting & writing. No paranormal/slasher terror, just surreal, creeping cosmic dread of the spreadsheet variety. You think you know where itβs going? You donβt. #horror

Oops, I forgot to post my #spooktasticreads Day 8: a review of T.Kingfisher's first two novellas in the Sworn Soldier series. (A third one released last month, and is in my library queue.) I enjoyed these bite-sized gothic treats. πππ©Έ

For the weekend, my #spooktasticreads Day 7 post is all about tone and my favorite ambients to set the perfect spooky atmosphere for your reading. πππ©Έ #horror #horrorsky

This #SpooktasticReads I'm rereading The Time Of The Dark by Barbara Hambly and I've got 10 good reasons you should too
#Spooktasticreads Day 6: This 2.5min horror short went viral and spawned a whole movie. Told without dialogue, Lights Out proves even the smallest tales can produce big terror. #horror #horrorsky

#Spooktasticreads day 5: tired of the typical angry/tragic-ghost/demon/possession/curse in a house? Craig DiLouie has written something truly special and bendy with this mixed media horror. πππ©Έ #horror #horrorsky

#spooktasticreads day 4. My favorite thing to share around #Halloween is first person stories from creepy Askreddit posts. Here's my selection this year. (Not to sound click-baity, but the last one is my favorite. I'm a sucker for a sea cryptid.) #horror π©Έπ

For #spooktasticreads Day 3, I'm sharing a great horror short. At a mere 7mins, Portrait of God is concise storytelling w/o jump scares.
"A religious girl prepares a presentation about a painting titled "Portrait of God". What she sees challenges her beliefs."

Iβm diverting from fiction into fancy for todayβs post in honour of #SpooktasticReads
Yes I nearly said fact. But. Ghost ships. Very little hard evidence.
Why yes, I am taking the #SpooktasticReads prompts out of order. Will you sail the seven seas in search of ghosts with me?
For #spooktasticreads day 2, it's my first full review of a horror book, and what a book! If paranormal terror is your jam, this popular nosleep-story-turned-novel will definitely have you afraid to look out your windows. #booksky π©Έπ

I'm splitting my #spooktasticreads participation between my blog and BSky, where I'll post 3 short horror films (<10 mins) throughout the week.
But for today, I'll start with the most obvious into: my favorite scary books, from terrifying to fun. π»π¦π€π₯

@wyrdandwonder.bsky.social is still going! I used to love this bookish event (and its mini event Spooktastic Reads) many years ago. It introduced me to the online bookish space. Iβll be doing #SpooktasticReads this year.

Background: A silhouette of a hand pushing against an opaque white surface Text: 13 prompts for Spooktastic Reads: Spooktastic TBR | Omen | Blood red | Fog incoming | Ghost ship | Footsteps | #StackSaturday | Pitch black | It's behind you | Creepy forest | Bone white | Moon | Samhain / Day of the Dead
It wouldn't be #SpooktasticReads without 13 prompts to inspire our reading and blogging. @adancewithbooks.bsky.social has put together a brilliant set for us with some nods to this years #WyrdAndWonder maritime fantasy theme
