Iβm late, but Iβm finishing up my last book for #SpookySeason2025 this week: Silvia Moreno-Garciaβs βThe Bewitching.β
Wonderful use of mystery and tension to drive the plot forward. I love when authors can pull off multiple POVs and timelines like this.

Show and Tell: During spooky season, I commissioned the awesome and talented @botsandmagic.bsky.social a Zombie YCH of Ameba for his zombie army, featured on his streams! He gave each zombie a unique animation, such as this "Zomeba" alternating forms!

If shops can start putting crimbo stuff out in September, then I can damned well keep #SpookySeason2025 running well into November.

55. The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie (1989)
Toxie becomes a yuppie and fights the Devil. These movies continue to be a ridiculous treat.

54. Good Boy (2025)
Extremely engrossing. An all-timer animal performance. Knowing how this was filmed makes it all the more impressive.
Yes itβs 1st of tha month, but itβs still #SpookySeason2025 so Iβm gon take it back to the original. #NowWatching Bonus #nfotd #NightOfTheLivingDead (1968) www.imdb.com/title/tt0063...

53. The Haunting (1963)
Halloween night. Dinner and karaoke with friends. Great seeing a bunch of people in costumes in the arts district. A ton of fun.
Capped off an incredible Halloween with a viewing of my favorite spooky movie. Perfect.

52. Frankenstein (2025)
Close to the novel but different in some important ways that cut to the heart about what del Toro loves about this story, and who he is as a person and an artist. Glad he brought this story he loves so much to life. Desplat's score is sublime.

51. The Beyond (1981)
At the theatre for Terror Tuesday. Bad dialogue. Bad dubbing. Lots of blood and guts. Lots of eyes coming out of sockets. This was awesome. So much fun seeing this one on the big screen.
#SpookySeason2025
50. Dead of Night (1945)
Another haunted mirror! Another haunted dummy!
A spooky anthology that's very of its time. Not bad but not particularly notable.
Fit with my dream theme this year. The framework story was more interesting to me than the anthology stories.

49. Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed (2004)
Doesn't have the biting charm or satire of the first movie, plays more by the numbers but is still very good.
Loved the bit in the credits that said "No animals or werewolves were harmed during the production of this film."
#SpookySeason2025
48. The Toxic Avenger Part II (1989)
My surprise and elation when Michael Jai White showed up. Still a ton of fun, just like the first one. These are only horror-adjacent but I'm still counting them on this list.

47. Magic (1978)
Insane that this movie exists. Even more insane that it's better than it has any right to be. Hopkins was incredible.
Not the perfect movie to end the marathon, but it kept with the theme of cocaine and harmonicas.

46. Effects (1979)
Loved the concept of this one. Not perfect, but a ton of fun with the idea of a full-length snuff film with unsuspecting participants made for a wide release general audience.

45. Fade to Black (1980)
A fun concept but this dragged. Not as funny as a movie like this would need to be for me to like it more.

44. The Wizard of Gore (1970)
So bad it's good. Lots of laughs in a nearly sold out auditorium. Missed the first 20 minutes due to a flat tire. The filmmakers absolutely had to know how funny this is when they were making it.

43. The Dead Zone (1983)
A very good adaptation even though I prefer the book. There are a few changes that actually enhance the story. Walken is not at all who I would have chosen for Johnny but he does better than I would have thought.
#SpookySeason2025
42. The Strangers: Chapter 2 (2025)
A big improvement over the first one. Madelaine Petsch is great. The editing is stellar for scenes with little dialogue and a lot of tension.
Suffers from same things as the first one but I'm looking forward to the third.

41. MadS (2024)
Another amazing French horror! The one-take presentation about a night of drugs, infidelity, and zombies. Incredible performances all around. This was awesome. Romain pretty much has the worst birthday ever here.

40. Baby Blood (1990)
Seen a lot of French horror lately; this was a great addition. I loved the convos between Yanka and the primordial fetus growing inside her. (The fetus sounded like an Ewok lol.) Easily one of my favorite things shown at Terror Tuesday.
#SpookySeason2025
39. In the Mouth of Madness (1994)
A 35mm print of this was the perfect closer to the marathon. An underlying sinister feeling of unreality about it at all times, like it's infected. God, I loved it. Easily top tier Carpenter. So great.

38. Cherry Falls (2000)
Seeing this in a packed auditorium as part of a mystery horror festival was the best possible way to see this movie again. Tons of laughs. This was an awesome experience.

37. Anguish (1987)
A fun one to watch in a sold out theatre. Three meta levels of sitting in a movie theatre watching a movie about people getting murdered in a movie theatre. Super cool ending credits.

#SpookySeason2025
36. Something Weird (1967)
The usual way to start out Dismember. With an older, obscure movie that blends horror and comedy (intentionally or not).

35. The Craft (1996)
Saw with some friends, some who hadn't seen it ever, or in years. We all unanimously loved it. What a gem of a movie.
Also, was super cool to see Scream and The Craft in theatres in the same week. Neve Campbell! Skeet Ulrich! 1996! Good shit!

34. Scream (1996)
Saw with some friends in an almost sold out theatre. A really fun way to revisit this one.

33. Titane (2021)
Watched this as a follow-up to my recent theatrical rewatch of Raw. I guess Ducournau is just one of those directors I find a bit inaccessible. Hopefully like with Raw I'll revisit this a few years from now and will get more out of it than I did now.
