Greece, 1954
I came across this set and was fascinated by how many words there were. I wonder if it was a record at the time, France and Belgium have both put out stamps with a record breaking number of words in the last 10 years but I didn't find anything on this one

Bit late in posting this Vancouver stamp despite taking the picture last week. Oops. Got so wrapped up in actually getting here what with the delays and stuff that I forgot to post it. It's a beautiful city fringed by mountains which is kinda odd but nice.

Lebanon, 1937.
Then I was a kid in the 80s we'd use 'Beruit' to indicate something desolate, destroyed. Walking into somewhere scruffy you might exclaim "Bloody hell it looks like Beruit in here"
Over time things improved and it fell out of use. Hmm.

I've been playing Kingdom Come Deliverance 2* for the past few weeks. It's set in medieval Bohemia and the currency is the Groschen. Ironically Czech stamps do not have Groschen on them as it was long gone by then.
*Brilliant game!

Thought I'd lean into whimsy today with this lenticular thunderbirds stamp I received on the envelope of an order from @philatelovely.bsky.social It's from a souvenir sheet celebrating Gerry Anderson. Love me a bit of lenticularity and a bit of whimsy

Iran 1907, 6ch
In 1935 a formal request was made for foreigners to use the same name that the country used for itself
Not all Iranians are Persian, a large ethnic group and their language extends beyond Iran
The stamp is on blue paper but my phone camera struggles with it

Germany 1920
I love me a German stamp and I love me an overprint so obviously I love these.
These are Bavarian stamps overprinted for use in wider Germany. The one on the left is a government service stamp whereas the other is a normal postage stamp.

Daevid and I are off to Vancouver in March. D's kid Caitlyn has a year of their degree there so we thought we'd take the opportunity to experience North America and pop in to see them. Vancouver recommendations please!
Bonus stamp attached. Indecisive!

Netherlands 1931, G Kiljan
I ask people when they think these stamps were produced they tend to say the 50s/60s.
They were produced in 1931.
The designers Piet Zwart and Gerard Kiljan, influenced by Bauhaus and Soviet design modernised stamp design in the Netherlands.

Greenland 1938 and 1950
Two Danish Kings (Christian X and Frederik IX) wearing lovely jaunty hats. They don't wear these fancy hats on Danish stamps so must have looked at Greenland and though "This requires a special hat!"

The oil industry is very big in Venezuela, the country has the largest oil reserves on earth but hasn't always exploited it by partnering internationally as the industry was nationalised in the 70s.

There is some debate about the first Xmas stamps (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christm...)
Canada got the word on a stamp in 1898 but festive stamps like today's started to take off in the 50s
Great Britain didn't join in until 1966 with the above two.
Sorry it's brief I'm ill!

Syria 75c / 3.5 Piastres, 1926
Picked these stamps up in a small cheap bundle of Syrian stamps at stamp club on Tuesday. I like that they're so crisp that the tool used to make the overprint has left an indent that can be seen from the other side in the pristine gum. ๐Ÿ˜

It's been quite a week so I figured we could do with a nice doggo
They were bred to be working dogs for fishermen and have webbed paws and a double coat. This combined with their strength makes them great for lifesaving in the cold waters of the region.

India 1912, 2 Rupees
After much searching I failed to find any stamps from Portuguese India so you'll have to have this one.
Last night we had a group meal where the guests bought dishes from Portuguese related countries.

I love this set of stamps, I think the graphic design is tip top, and this is my favourite of the set. It's not the most expensive, that's the 3 Mark one which has a catalogue value of around ยฃ100 for a used one. I just like the colours.

*Reckon you can get throw out of stamp club for insulting stamps?
Was looking for rememberance-y stamps but these caught my eye

Feeling at least 38% more spoopy than anticipated. Pls enjoy these movie monster stamps. Unfortunately I don't have the Bela Lugosi Dracula one - many goth tears will surely flow.

Commemorating Swedish winners of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. (Couldn't find any peace prize ones in my collection in the time I had)
Maybe you'd have more luck in another category Donnie? I guess you have just as much chance of winning the Chemistry one

Austria, 1920.
I do love an over-print.
This one was for the Carinthia referendum held to decide if the area should join the fledgling Yugoslavia or remain as part of Austria. Despite 70% of the population speaking Slovene 59% voted to stay in Austria. Still Austria now.

Bit late with stamp of the week but became inspired today noticing several posts mentioning the queen of hearts on the 28th anniversary of her death on the 31st. I'd assumed it was a rounder number given the number of posts but hey.

I've spent the last week and a bit knee deep in Dwarf Fortress. It is one of the most ridiculous games of all time. I love the gem mining and the random crap the game throws at you. I recently had a wereskink infestation. 'fun' ensued obvs.

Libya 1989 2 of a strip of 5
Gaddafi era stamps really are delightfully batshit.
(On a train to Edinburgh for the weekend so I had to find a stamp I'd already photographed)
Will also post a screen grab of the full strip

It's been a cat sort of week even though I was out with Pa Orange's dog harem on Weds.
I have this beautiful FDC but I just noticed this stamp has a cat near some lilies which is a big nope as lily pollen can cause kidney failure in cats. Nice drawing and cancel though
