Standing stone in a church wall with a bike

#StandingStoneSaturday 🙄🧐😮

Stretching the legs around the backlanes & hills of Devils Bridge, mid Wales, this morning... #cycling

It would have been rude not to stop at the tiny circular churchyard & Bronze Age stone circle at Ysbyty Cynfyn on the way👌

#StandingStoneSaturday I went off all social media for a while for all kinds of healthy reasons, so I hadn’t shared equinox pictures of my dawn moment at the #BronzeAge burial circle behind my house. Numb fingered, I drummed slowly to the dawn, a rhythm I’d only minutes before dreamt #archaeotherapy

A photo of an elaborately carved standing stone. Triple swirls in mesmerising swirling patterns cover the surface, along with other carved braids. The stone is in a glass case. It’s summer and the fields are golden. The sea is in the distance

The Sandwick stone in Tain is one of my favourite Pictish Stones. Not to misquote Nietzsche or anything—but this stone is the void staring back whilst singing at you and hoping you know the words even if you can’t carry the tune. #StandingStoneSaturday

View looking over the monument. The whole landscape is low, relatively flat and covered in boggy tussocks.

A close up viw of part of the ring of stones showing how they are alligned side on to the ring.

For #StandingStoneSaturday I offer the Achkinloch/Achavanich Stone Setting in Caithness. This horseshoe shaped monument is unusual in that the stones stand perpendicular to the ring, with their narrow ends pointing toward the centre. 📷 My own

You have to love a standing stone!

A simply fabulous carved Pictish stone, ca. 7th-8th Century AD, decorated with depictions of a goose and a fish. #Archaeology #StandingStoneSaturday 🏺
