#MeetTheWriters: Michelle de Kretser on migration, education in Paris & Melbourne, and her latest novel Theory & Practice. A must-listen for anyone who loves complex storytelling and questions of belonging. #MichelleDeKretser #LiteraryFiction #StellaPrize #VirginiaWoolf

My hand holding Michelle De Kretsers book “Theory and Practice”. The cover is an artistic impression of a black haired woman facing the famous image of a young Virginia Woolf.
This is the last on my pile of #stellaprize reads for this year - the winner and I can see why. It’s absolutely cutting about academia in the late 80s and also hilarious: this line “but Myron had sworn a blood oath to Theory and would go on to ensure that every subsequent hire had done the same.”
A stack of three books on a wooden table. The books are (top to bottom) “Homo Sacer: Sovereign power and bare life” by Giorgio Agamben; “Giving an account of oneself” by Judith Butler and the novel “Rapture” by Emily Maguire.
Todays reading list - I need the Agamben and Butler for something I’m writing but I’m going to finish the novel first. It’s the third I’ve read off this years #stellaprize long list and I absolutely love it. I’ll do a post of all the ones I’ve read when I’m done with the winner this weekend.
Michelle de Kretser has won this year's Stella prize for her 7th novel, 'Theory & Practice.'

🥳Congrats to our dear friend Michelle de Kretser for deservedly winning the #StellaPrize for #TheoryandPractice. She launched #TheoryandPractice with us and came back for our #SundaySessions book club to talk about it. Brava! 👏👏👏
A block dog lies on the end of a white linen covered bed. A pink and yellow book is open face down and a hand holds a glass of dark milky coffee.
Close up of the cover of the book called The Burrow by Melanie Cheng. The cover illustration is a sketch of a hand making a rabbit shadow puppet and the rabbit itself is colored bright pink.
Treating myself to a Sunday morning in bed with my favourite things: a dog, an iced coffee, and a good book. I miss Australian fiction so have ordered everything off the latest #StellaPrize list (check it out for our best women writers). The Burrow is fantastic.

I am loving this trend of literary prizes producing & making these brilliant short films for their shortlist. Sharing these excerpts from the #StellaPrize shortlist. So good! First up: Salme Geransar reads from Translations by Jumaana Abdu
