You can see that I start with an outline and then fill it in and figure out the shading and colors from there.

This stitch sketch by Deidre Robb is called 'Quality donations needed'. It is one of a series of artworks about op shopping (thrift shopping or charity shopping). The artwork is made from fabrics in threads in cream, pale brown and taupe tones. The exhibition theme was Alternative Archive and all the works in this series are approx A4 size and use colours found in old archival records. The artwork depicts a random pile of shapes made from various types of fabrics and hand stitching techniques.

Yesterday I had one of THOSE days where nothing went as planned and everything I turned my hand to felt like a giant pile of rubbish. Back on the horse today...

A stitched artwork with a cream linen background. Six circular motifs are stitched in the style of string art pictures that were made by looping thread around nails in a board. One motif is stitched in white thread, two in black, and three in pale brown.

This stitch sketch is called 'Remember those?' and is part of my 2019 work 'I op shop therefore I am'.

I live in a city with a huge number of op shops. I'm planning on doing a walking tour around a cluster of them.
