Checking out @stoat.chat as an alternative for a digital gathering space similar to what I've had experience with iver the last decade. It's under construction and has some kinks to work out, but so far seems pretty good. #stoatchat #revolt #opensource

Screenshot of a github thread for stoat.chat which reads: Azure-Lazulane: regardless of the many morality-based arguments you can make against LLM usage, it's worth considering that there are many people with incredibly strong anti-LLM views, and those people tend to be minorities or other vulnerable groups. if it's only 0.01% of the codebase anyway, you should heavily consider putting in a little extra work to make that 0% and ensure that it stays that way: both from a business perspective to gain more users, and also just because it's a nice thing to do for people who are already struggling immensely with a world that's becoming more and more LLM-centric. thank you for reading and considering this, if you do. insertish: I'm happy to revert the commits since it's not all that much, once GitHub starts working anyways, since it's not all that much. VaelophisNyx: I would heavily recommend you do and discontinue use of it at all and ban use of it in the future for the project at large. LLM slop code is the death of projects like this. 3055HUN73R: hopefully you can also hold together. good luck out here, things are gonna move fast. insertish: It's gone.

I've been using Stoat (formerly Revolt) since April 2024. I'm glad I don't have to worry about Stoat feeding my art to AI or my activities to models to figure out how old I am.
I absolutely will not be giving Discord my ID or submitting a face scan. +

If anyone is looking to alternatives to poke around to get some control in their lives, I've been on Stoat since April 2024 and it's been pretty alright. It's kinda in an awkward spot from having to suddenly rebrand from Revolt but I'm glad it's still around!

When Discord started going downhill with genAI garbage & stuff, a friend & I tried out two alternatives: Matrix/Element & Stoat (previously Revolt).
Stoat is the most similar to Discord. Matrix is structured differently & for my old Discord server, Stoat was the better option. +
